I did suggest to the man in the hidden post office that if he had a sign on the main road more cyclists on the ncn like me would probably pop in. He thought it was a go...

Re: travelling with bike, by train.

I am sorry, but I can't really answer that one (although I will ask the trainspotter at work tomorrow), but I think for those in the know specific routes will run specific rolling stock - so there may not be a guards van anyway ! The whole bikes on trains is a bit of a thing for me : Due to the prob...

Re: travelling with bike, by train.

I posted an early reply yesterday from my phone, but it did'nt seem to get through , so a bit after the event here goes ... You can also book a space for your bike via Virgin East Coast for any train journey. It is'nt too straight forward to use first time because, naturally you need to book a seat ...

Re: best adventure mattress?

I use a Vango Ultralite 3/4 length. £30 and reasonably small to pack and light enough. I also carry some of that silver bubble wrap, actually an inside the car windscreen sun protector. This gives some extra insul., protects the Vango mat and is very useful on its own for a dry sit down or nap durin...

Re: Trans Cambrian Bothies

If it helps, the M.B.A. bothies are listed on the M.B.A. website with GRs. Remember to join up. I think one of the Elan Valley bothies may not be M.B.A. but I am sure someone else here will confirm that.

Suggestions for 1x9 crankset with low Q factor please

I am completing a budget bike packing project based on an On One Scandal, and looking to improve on my current set up. Currently running an Alvio triple with just a single middle ring, and the pedals are way apart. I do a lot of road miles from the train before hitting the trail, so need to look aft...

Re: Brecon (OLD PUMPHOUSE bothy)

In early February 2015, I can confirm that the bothy has an upstairs sleeping platform.

Comfy for 3 arranged head to toe, maybe plus 1 at a pinch.

And the mouse downstairs can find chocolate through a dry bag !

Re: Which part of the world do you live, and do you like it?

Bristol - reasonable sized city, lots going on, independent shops, bike routes, Roll for the Soul, Sustrans etc, etc. We don't own a car but Severn Beach railway gives a springboard out to the Severn plain and beyond, and a train from Parkway gets me to Abergavenny and the Black Mountains in under a...
