Re: A poll ... shelters
I voted double skin tent because I use that most, normally with my car and a massive event shelter at bike events! When out and about, it tends to be a bivvy bag only when I know it won't rain, and include a tarp if it might/will rain, with the odd bothy thrown in. And where's the hammock option for...

I did the West Highland Way in a 1.5 days bike packing, the hike a bike bit between Ardleish and Inversnaid alongside Loch Lomand almost killed me - good luck
Also spent the Easter weekend + a few days either side in the Outer Herbrides - really lovely place 8-)

Cable tie fans, you should check out the range of cable ties available to you, here's a pretty good selection:

Re: Bear Bones Summer Camp - July 20th/21st
Actually, I just had a thought, that this would be a really good chance to learn communally. If everyone is bringing their bikes, we can all geek up over each others setup and gear, and the overnighter on the hills would be enough to warrant the trip anyway :D I'm busy trying to think of some skills...

The other benefit for many people is the extra mounting options they offer for drybags etc. I'm just curious to see whether I'm alone in my love of them or not? And if not, what kind of setup you have? Recently bought a set for precisely this, shall report back in a couple of weeks time once I've t...

Re: flats or clip in pedals??
Clipless pedals for me, I find time ones really comfy with loads of float for my slightly wayward knee. Time atac pedals FTW! I notice flicking through the rose bikes catalogue that there's lots of spd shoes (and sandels) that are designed for touring/walking these days as opposed to pure Cycling p...

I think most of the points have been covered in this thread, but my ten penneth worth is that rumour has it that the GoPro is the dogs danglies one to get (and even if not completely true, rumours rarely come out of nowhere). I've also seen up front through much footage that the GoPro really is pret...

Wahey - actually managed a Bivvy in March (31st... :? ). Frost inside and outside the Bivvy when I woke up, but was plenty warm and the scenery ...

Re: Who uses a rear rack, when bike packing?
Did use a rear rack on the old commuting bike, it was very good in terms of ease of use - takes no time to attach/detatch luggage, and it was pretty damn strong. You can properly load them up if you wanted. So if you wanted to literally lst minute pack and go, you can. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/...

Re: Would there be any interest? ... carbon pole content.
Using a ruler (as my vernier is in the garage), I would guess at: O/D 9mm I/D 3 or 4mm So it's plenty stiff. I suppose I could work out a theoretical capacity and the likelihood of it breaking. In fact, getting a 1 metre length pole that's lighter is fairly impressive as the bending moment is consid...
