Re: Going full retard - an Everesting journey!

Any chance you could amend the thread title? "Retard" is considered by many people to be a slur based on disability.

Re: Today's Run

The Bamford Sheepdog Trials fell race, up Win Hill and back down.
A nice warm up, a steep walk, then a long way down and a sprint to finish.
And a beer.

I was that slow for some of it that Strava has me down as not moving for about 10 minutes of it. 😁

They do seem popular, but I've also noticed a non-zero number of breakages on the old social media channels. That said, there's also a non-zero number of breakages of other kit. I guess everyone gets a mechanical eventually.

Re: Tiagra cassette range question

If you're careful about avoiding big/big and small/small gear combos, if you screw the B-tension screw right in (or even add a longer one), you might need to add a gear hanger extender... you might be able to get a 4700 mech to cope with a 40+ sprocket. It can also depend a bit on the hanger geomet...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

What a gorgeous evening. Warm, with a slight tailwind over the moors. Lambs, calves, lapwings, deer, buzzards all out enjoying it too. The light at this time of year is something else. I made my camp, having first inflated my mat, and tried it out in a number of positions to account for flattish gro...

Re: Today's Run

Sounds lovely!

The only orienteering I've encountered has been the nice gentle sort in parks, invariably trailing round after one of the mini bears (and despairing of their navigation...).

Yay! for Boners, Stu and the Air Ambulance!
Erm? for Helen's leg! Sounds a bit grim, but do I gather it's going to be cheery in the long run?

Closer to home, yay! for the bakery that's opening tomorrow just opposite my house.

Re: Dashed green line or other (route mapping Q?

Is the problem that the routing software snaps to the black dotted track, and doesn't follow where the bridleway is/should be? I wouldn't worry about it overly, just head along there and take the obvious track on the ground.
