Re: Front mudguard for a Stooge MK2

The mudhugger mudguards are quite soft and should be able to be manipulated to fit. I use one on my longitude with a 2.8 tyre and that works OK, although I hit it with a warm air gun to make it a bit easier to shape. I cant see it not fitting, just not being wide enough and debris might get past the...

Re: Ergon saddles experiences?

Hi, I use an Ergon SM Pro and I am yet to be convinced. I recently did 4 days and roughly 380Km on it day after day and was still a bit sore, but I had just changed from a Brooks cambium which almost killed me after 1 day, so maybe I need to just toughen up or get used to it, of all the saddles I've...

Re: WRT

This year was different for me, I decided to ride back from Bear Bones towers all the way to Cranfield(Bedfordshire) 320Km. I arrived home for 14:00 Monday, so quite happy with that. I was flagging this morning until a roadie screamed past wearing a Phil Corley shirt (local MK bike store for fashion...

I use the Tifosi readers.

Work really well, only come in dark or clear though.

Re: Brake Bleeding. Is it as easy as sounds?

Just double check your hose is firmly on the bleed nipple, its really easy for it to come off, spraying oil/DOT all over everywhere.

Done that a few times.

Once in the front room! I had the mother of clean up jobs before the boss got home.

Dangerous dogs

I had a farm dog chase me a few days ago and I have never really been bothered by dogs before, but this one was belligerent and really a bit scary, throwing himself at my calves and doing his utmost to make a point. I wanted to get off and give it the biggest kick, but I was worried that I would may...

Re: Bar tape recommendations

I have a vagabond with digest bars, and I just double wrap using bar tape from decathlon as it is cheap and because you will hit the bars on a post, tree or doorframe the first time you ride them, they do stick out! Be careful setting them up as they can swing around and whack the top tube if you do...

Re: Help please (before I get the big file out!)

I still say put a washer on the disc side of the axle. You may need to dish the rim a little if it bothers you, but a quarter turn on each nipple on that side should do it. You can always make a washer fit, by drilling out the centre to the diameter of the axle. Just don't do it whilst holding it wi...

Re: Help please (before I get the big file out!)

Could you not simply add a washer between hub and fork?

I had a similar issue with my Genesis longitude and I thought about filing down the adaptor before realising I could add a washer, biggest issue I had was finding a washer to fit as it is an odd size hole.

Re: DIY wheel building

It is true that building wheels can be more expensive, but it does allow you the freedom to build things like dynamo hubs etc. But bear in mind is that there can be a lot of 26" wheels out there with good hubs on for not much money. For my last wheel build I used an XT rear hub from an old whee...

Tubeless tyres, when do you change?

I currently run Schwalbe Rocket Rons on my Longitude and have been very happy with them. However, they are now two years old but do have loads of tread left. The problem is they don't seem to hold air anymore and go down after a couple of weeks, I put this down to the sheer number of punctures they ...

I suppose riding 2018 and the river crossings. I was using SPD's and slipped whilst trying to negotiate one of what can only be described as a torrent and having to swim for the bank. My waterproof clothing is also waterproof from the inside! Luckily somebody managed to grab my bike. I would have tu...

Re: Genesis Longitude???

Hi. 27.5+ feels draggy on roads and hard surfaces, very difficult to get the pressure right for mixed terrain. I have a vagabond 29er and it feels like it rolls better/faster, might just be me, might be the bike. I have Jones bars on my longitude and it is again a marmite set-up, lots of hand positi...

Re: Genesis Longitude???

I have one.

I think it is perfect for the sort of stuff we do, still not convinced about 27.5+ though.

It's not the fastest, but it is very forgiving.

I suppose the question is what do you intend to use it for?

Re: I did not sleep well that night.

Well seeing as it was my anecdote that started this thread off, maybe I should tell the story. It was a few years ago, one summer, and I thought I had this bicycle touring sorted, so embarked on an overnighter straight from work just to see how things went, free without a care. I left Thetford stati...

Re: Anyone bother with a lock when out?

Really depends on where I am I suppose. I use a Hiplock Z lock. which won't stop a determined thief, but is handy when you need to nip into a toilet/shop or something and it feels a bit dodgy. It doesn't weigh much and I usually slide it down the frame bag loops. I would say choosing the right spot ...

I for one can't really see this working. I carry very little and just what I need, and I look after it (ex forces) as I may come to really rely on it one day, is this something that others will copy? or will it be like you hire a car with 4 bald tyres? I think the repair and mend is a much better wa...

Re: Anyone tried putoline chain wax ?

Hi. I use Putoline and it seems to last for a few days of the sort of riding we do, that said if it is truly biblical then not a lot will stay on, the worst is thick mud falling off the rear tyre onto the chain, sucking all the lubricant off. I bought a super cheap deep fat fryer from LIdl and it is...

I have probably a few candidates, I have a Pashley speed 5 which my wife bought me as a birthday present, it is beautiful to look at but plain miserable to ride. Re: Genesis Vagabond - any good?

I have one, in fact rode to work on it this morning. I built mine from a frameset though. I think it is pretty ace, it seems a little heavy, but rolls along quite nicely. I struggled to get stem height right to begin with and I was up and down all over the place. I think not having eyelets on the fo...
