Re: Ferries to ‘THE Island’ & other questions
I'm doing a similar outing in June from my home in Wareham Dorset. We are calling it the three ferries tour as I've included Sandbanks, Hengistbury and the Link ferry in the ride. Following a route from this site: https://www.lifeinthesaddle.cc/2019/07/gravel-cycling-routes-isle-of-wight.html That ...

It's on a way-marked cycle route as well for bonus points. I knew exactly where that was, before I even spotted who posted it (and I've only been ther...

As an aside, you can do a tour of the Paris sewers and, at the end, there are visitors toilets. (Proper flushing ones)

You're very good at this Lu ... I dropped a spacer in the yard yesterday. I've an idea where it is but can't find it. Not quite "lost", but I once stashed some beers in a place that I knew I'd be riding past, with friends, about 2 weeks later. They were still there, when required, and the looks on their faces when I disappeared into the under growth, and emerged with 4 chilled beers, was priceless Callin...

Re: Etrex alternatives?
But that's a Route, you only really need one way-point for a route, the destination. The gps is deciding the way between them, like a sat-nav does in a car. If you've planned a route for a veloviewer tile bagging session, then that tends to be more specific than "start here and go to there&quo...

Re: Dipped Bike Lights
I use a Lezyne Macro Drive, which has a 'race mode' feature. When you put the light on this setting, pressing the button cycles between full power and a medium output. It's not perfect but it's a pretty easy way to dip the beam, and useful off road too - full power for descents, dipped for everywhe...

Re: Etrex alternatives?
Hmm - my eTrex (35 touch) has a limit of 40 waypoints per route, if you want to get turn by turn notifications - not the 250 stated above. I find this a bit puzzling, TBH, as it only needs the route you to the next point, then the point after that - not calculate the whole route at once. It's only m...

Re: Dipped Bike Lights
Whilst that helps to avoid dazzling, it doesn't make best use of the available light, with too much of it being close to the bike. At speed, you want the beam further ahead of your front wheel

Re: Dipped Bike Lights
Any of these, depending on your battery preference. There's no auto-dip, because they have a beam pattern that doesn't dazzle. (Very effective, it is, too) https://www.bumm.de/en/products/akku-scheinwerfer.html As the dip effect comes from the shape of the reflector, it's surprising that few (if any...
