Re: traditional touring cooking (2 people)
If there's 2 of us I use an Evernew ultralight titanium burner, http://www.backpackinglight.co.uk/cookers-and-stoves/RB102.html, and trivet, http://www.backpackinglight.co.uk/cooking-accessories/RE104.html and along with an Alpkit MiTi mug (older 750m ml version) this will boil enough water for 2 of...

Re: shelter options for couples?
The wife and myself have shared a tarp and used it with individual bivi bags. Once in the bag only your head needs to be under the tarp to keep the rain off your face/the open top of the bivi bag. It was raining when we pitched the set-up below. One of us got sorted and into the bag whilst sideways ...

Good idea Dan... but i'd need several bottles  this is the state of my bike after a quick 14 mile round trip last night and my legs were the same http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q569/Sean_iow/DSC_3878_zpsahmskqbb.jpg Putting a base layer on over the muddy legs seems the best option, I can...

What do you do about muddy legs?
Hi I've been a member here for over a year, but not contributed much so thought I'd try and be more involved. I haven't been on a bivi since last May when the wife damaged her knee (running not biking) and had to stop riding, although an upcoming op should fix that. Whilst out riding last night I de...

Re: [Need help] Headset for Genesis High Latitude
As above, the Hope pick and mix are suitable, the top cup Type 2 (Integral) for 1 1/8" steerer and bottom cup Type H (Traditional) for 1.5" steerer. The bottom cup puts the bearing below the head tube and allows the use of a tapered steerer fork. If you have a straight 1 1/8 steerer fork t...

An Exposure / SP PD-8X Dynamo Hub  http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q569/Sean_iow/DSC_3691_zpsbhbvveik.jpg It's a Christmas present from the wife, but I had to order it as the difference between qr and 15mm is lost on her  Posted a pic as it will be wrapped up and under the tree soon, ...

Re: 15mm through axle uber alles?
The SP website says they have "internally increased bearing diameters for added mechanical strength" but this could be just the inner diameter, it depends on how you interpret it. It would be worth checking as this would sway it back to a qr version. I'll have to go 15mm for mine as I've g...

Re: 15mm through axle uber alles?
In that case definitely go for the 15mm version, it's a bit more expensive, but as you say it's future proof and it would also be easier to sell on if you ever wanted to. Also, have they had to use larger bearings to allow for the 15mm axle? If so that would be an advantage as well?

Re: 15mm through axle uber alles?
Doesn't the 15mm version of the hub come supplied with a qr adaptor? So you could get a 15mm version and use it in your current forks and it will still fit a 15mm fork in the future.

Re: Genesis High Latitude (2015)
I've got a Latitude (650B version) and I really like it. It's got a forgiving ride and covers the downhills much better than my other bikes but they are both 26" so the bigger wheels might be a part of that. Mine weighs just over 28 lbs as pictured. I've not been bike packing on it yet but as a...

Re: show me your light solutions......
I tend to adjust the power output to suit the conditions to maximise battery life, full power for descents and low for climbs, so I needed the switch on the back to be handy. I also point the light down on road sections to avoid blinding oncoming traffic, which is easy as the light is only held on w...

Re: Fat B Nimble. distorted?
I had the same problem with some 650B Panaracer Fire Pros. Set up tubeless on Arch Ex and they had a major 'wobble'. I managed to get this to an acceptable amount by beading carefully but it took 40 psi and I also had to use commercial tyre fitting paste (for car tires) to get the tyre to pop onto t...

Re: show me your light solutions......
I was going to make one, but after seeing the other thread about the same problem I just bought the Bar Fly one which works really well and is probably lighter than I could make one. The fitted harness is a 'mini' version I made to hold a small dry bag for my waterproof. With this and a saddle bag f...

Re: Bivvy a month 2015
May and June We were struggling to find the motivation to do one a month, the Isle of Wight is not really full of 'remote' spots and living near the middle of the Island we are never far from home. Having started a ride out in the rain recently, and then abandoning for the lure of a warm house and c...

Re: Packing Tents
You do notice the extra weight of the kit on the rougher sections, so I take a more leisurely approach when out on the loaded bike. I tend to have to pick my way through and slowly roll over stuff I would normally just fly over. The bike as pictured weighed 49 lbs at the start of the ride so not exa...

Re: Packing Tents
I've just done a 3 day trip, including one on the SDW in the rain. I was staying at campsites (cheating I know) so took the tent. I had it strapped to the top of my handlebar harness. As it's a TN Laser it's a bit of a faff to separate the inner and outer, and they have to be together to pitch it so...

Re: Bivvy a month 2015
Two days late with March's, does that still count? After the flapping tarp last month I had think about my setup. I was trying to pitch the tarp to make a tent, but is the point to be out in the open to see the stars? Or mist in our case  so it was out with the sewing machine to make a smaller...

Re: Carrying water
I've made a copy of the Stem Cell but with the dimension altered to fit a 750ml bottle, so it's taller and narrower. I also carry another 750mm or 1000ml bottle in my frame bag. If I was lucky enough to be out in Wales/Lakes/Scotland I'd just carry the one bottle on the bars but clear mountain strea...

You're not wrong there! Not quite sure what I was trying to achieve when I pitched it. It did flap quite a bit, and the wind changed direction to be blowing in the front, but once snug in our bags we couldn't muster the enthusiasm to get up and sort it. Funnily enough, when I pitched it in the garde...

Re: Bivvy a month 2015
2/2 As newbies we didn't stray too far, as we live on the Isle of Wight there's not very far we can stray. Managed a 22 mile ride out, but left late on Friday night so after stopping at a chippy on the way we didn't get to our spot until midnight, by which time it was raining. A hastily pitched tarp...
