Re: Forest of Dean ride & bivvy Weds 17th April

Sounds nice. I might be in the UK (or may not depending on opps here) but I would cycle over for this...great part of the world. I should know my whereabouts about 2 weeks in advance...and will commit (or not) then if that's ok? Will be good to have you along if you can make it :-bd (I owe you some...

Re: Strap obsession

Reg, if ever you find yourself in Montgomery (perhaps visiting the castle), I suggest you call in at the hardware shop there. Place is like a maze and every corner is full of stuff you never knew existed or that you need as much as you do once you know it exists. I grew up in a place like that :gri...

Forest of Dean ride & bivvy Weds 17th April

Reg (RIP) and myself are meeting up for Reg's April BAM in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. The plan as it stands is that Reg will roll into the area by railway late evening Tuesday 16th April then ride with me early Wednesday17th April. Our route will involve a combination of tracks and quiet lan...

Re: Leucist spotted

Saw this on the local news last week. An impressive looking bird. Apparently there have been occasional sightings of a white (red)kite at the feeding station at Rhayader (they think may be the same bird) and they are picked on and bullied by the red kites. Who'd have thought - racism amongst raptors!

Re: Packed bike weighIn Thread

At the WRT Weigh-In my complete set up is usually in the 50-60lbs region (22.5 - 27.5kg). That is for a comfortable 3 day 'adventure' in May in the green watershed that is Stu's back yard.. That includes everything: bike (usually a 26" HT), bags, sleep kit, food, cooking kit, water, clothing (o...

Yeah, I've got my route plotted and bivvy spots identified - one of them a good sheltered spot so should be ideal for a nice fire. Will be planning my food drops next.
I'll be missing out 3 of the references that are a bit off-grid for me though.

Sad news to hear that Wildcat Gear will be no more; innovative and ahead of the game in a market that is now, shall we say, "well served" by all and sundry!
Best wishes for the future, keep those pedals turning (and maybe some more tales on Middle Ring?) :-bd

Re: Another new gravel bike with interesting bars

Do people riding this sort of bike on gravel or on ultra-distance ITTs actually fit guards?
It may be nice to have the option for a bit of touring but I don't think this bike is aimed at riders that fit mudguards...

Looks a very nice bike though and it's good to see companies trying to be innovative as well as practical with their designs.

Just watched this on PedalEd. Looks a totally amazing place to ride. I think you can not only see the suffering in the 'long stares' but also in the level of 'conversation' along the way! I guess a film by the promotors is going to concentrate on the leaders plus, as I understand it, the leaders got...

Re: My 231 mile Ride: Pls input

Ha ha, yep, that looks more suitable!
I'd probably go with a half-frame bag (I use Wildcat Ocelots) and water bottles in the botte holders under. Looks like 500ml bottles should fit no problem, possibly even bigger ones. Like Chew says, much easier to keep an eye on levels and fill along the way.

Re: My 231 mile Ride: Pls input

Is this ride on-road or off-road? If on-road and you're planning on doing it in one hit (i.e. not bivvying along the way) then surely you won't be needing to fill the bike up with bags? Maybe a waterproof and an insulated jacket just incase. Water and snacks can go in stem cells and bottle holders (...

Would I be right in thinking that to access that roll-top frame bag it needs to be removed from the frame?
Or does it bellow out to the side?
