Re: Wheel rebuilding service - midlands ideally

Gary from the now closed Banbury cycles has built my wheels for some time now, always been super reliable including many thousands of miles in a heavily loaded bigdummy cargo bike, I’m just about to hand over SON and hope hubs and a pair of WTB i31 carbon rims an expensive combo which I totally tru...

You could probably get an MSR stove to run off oil if you got the jet size right! Slightly large for bikepacking though...

Re: Wheel rebuilding service - midlands ideally

Leamington Spa, so fairly SW Midlands. Found a shop in Stratford that has a good reputation, going to give them a call.

Wheel rebuilding service - midlands ideally

Anyone know of an excellent wheel rebuilder around the midlands? I am happy to post them if I can get a good service elsewhere, I just need a solid 100% reliable build! The last build I got lasted 30,000 miles and are still true, sadly the guy has gone AWOL.

Excellent, emailed about rates. I am tempted by buying second hand then reselling afterwards, this may be the cheapest option.

Satellite messaging options

I'm cycling in Patagonia from Coyhaique to Punta Arenas over December/ January and I'm looking for a reliable way to keep in contact with family members, especially over Xmas and New years. 2 way communication would be required and I don't think there will be mobile signal covering the journey down....

Re: shimano disc pads with fins .....worthwhile??

So I was just test riding my road bike down the street, and whipped out my thermal imaging camera (as you do) after some braking. Yeah - those heatsink fins on the pads really do something! Just showed this to my brakes engineer friend and got this reply: "Yes. They will be there to try and pr...

Re: Entries open on the... some time in November.

I'm going to miss the Winter Event this year unfortunately, just booked a month off work to cycle down Patagonia over Christmas. Shame as I really want to do a snowy bikepacking event, lets hope it stays cold in February.

Re: shimano disc pads with fins .....worthwhile??

Talked this through with a brakes development engineer who certainly knows his stuff. The long and short of it is that by the time the fins are hot enough to have any effect on convection cooling, the friction compound will be well past the fade point.

Re: BB200 2017 - No More Speculation

I've decided not to 'plan' my food stops this year, it always falls over anyway. Looks like a water filter/chlorine tabs is a necessity though, unless I can just wring out my jersey into a bottle? I do plan on sitting down at 200km and having a strop though.

I actually quite like this video! The cinematography is fantastic.

Does the BB200 route go anywhere near the coast? Worth bringing a crabbing line?!

Aye, a proper frost here on Fri night - recall thinking how I wouldn't much fancy being laid under my 150 quilt
Might be time to prop it up with my dayglo orange £10 down gillet!

I feel my situation on Saturday may have brought this thought up in your mind... thanks again for use of your powerbank! From now on I'm bringing 2, never want to be in that situation again. It surprised me how quickly I went from enjoying myself to feeling extremely vulnerable :|

Re: Too Early for a YD300 thread?

Had to bail, powerbank failed so couldn't charge the Garmin, absolutely gutted. 120km of the route done, 60km detour on the road back to the start.

Thank you so much for the BB member who charged my Garmin enough so I could navigate back to the start.

All packed! I've packed very lightly, lets hope I don't need any sleep  There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of places open in terms on food. Averaging 10kph looks like I'll miss a lot of pub openings and cafes.
