Re: LeJOG audax-style anyone?
My intention wasn't to put anyone off, but it was to make sure people knew what they were getting themselves into! It should be noted that the route isn't finalised yet, so it may all get better.....but there are only so many roads in places if you want a reasonably direct route, and with under 5 da...

Re: LeJOG audax-style anyone?
I'm on here as an occasional bikepacker, but my main thing recently has been Audax. Completed PBP last year, and LEJOG was on the radar for this year, but I decided against it, mainly due to: 150 tired riders pushing themselves through the night on the main road network. More specifically, with a ti...

I have large legs and had a similar issue, I solved it with a carradice and a bagman. Not sexy I know, but as a bonus I can actually get to the contents easily!

Weirdly, he seems to have had three different rear luggage setups on the same trip! ....and yes, the bike might have been cheap (and to my untrained eye it doesn't look like you'd get that level of kit for that price without getting lucky on ebay) but there are a whole bunch of costs that aren't men...

I don't know how good this seat pack is, but it's certainly cheap! https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CCAVSP/altura-vortex-seat-pack Half decent, but I sold mine.... Small, and both buckles need to be opened to get inside which leaves nothing holding it onto the saddle. Would be ok for carrying change o...

Re: Cycling trousers that can be used as work wear in a casual office
Depends how smart are needed, but I wear these for work days: https://www.wiggle.co.uk/endura-hummvee ... ousers-ii/
They're very well designed for cycling and don't get a white patch from the saddle like every other cargo/combat trouser I've tried (at least not yet...)

I also really like Battenburg as the perfect mixture of fat and sugar. I remember riding the BB200 a few times riding along eating a Batterburg, taking bites out of the whole thing like a Mars bar! Sounds similar to my penchant for carrying marzipan, bought in blocks from supermarket (bonus ...

All good tips! I'm an occasional reader and very occasional poster on here, my main thing these days is Audax. I'd add to the above, especially taking into account what the event is, 'Don't be shy about jumping off and walking'! That event is known as a real tough one and whilst not the toughest cli...

I mainly ride road, but want long lasting and clean-ish, with good performance - there's only one clear winner for me which is actual wax, melted in a slow cooker and the chain taken out when it's cooled quite a bit (if you take it out at operating temp all the wax just drips off before it's set. Not able to commute by bike to the new job, but when I did I used these sealskinz halo overshoes with a red led in the heel. Yeah, I liked that projected line idea. Was pretty damn expensive though. I'm not going to say I'm sure this works as well as the (clearly photoshopped) example picture, but maybe worth a try? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Laser-5-LED-Flashing-Rear-Bike-Bicycle-Tail-Light-Lamp-Beam-Safety-Warning-HL...

Re: 1 litre bottle. SIS v Zefal
I have the Zefal, it's fine. Harder plastic than the SIS type, which tend to flex (and therefore leak) at the top when squeezed hard. As long as you tighten the lid to the correct torque  it'll not leak. The only downside is the valve isn't one of the type that doesn't leak when left open, so ...

Cool write-up, I toyed with that as a DIY for the same reasons but ended up planning a loop from home instead. Definitely agree about the last bit of the route though, I ride around there far too often. TINAT will include a good kip. I am on the 400 too, having done Yr Elenydd last week (a 300k whic...

@Alex Gold, another year for you? They now have a section for people with 30mm tyres and we can propose a new event: “throwing a CX bike 10m in frustration”. Haha. Hope to see you again this year. It did pique my interest and I'd have probably preferred it to last year's 'knife to a gunfight' ridin...

I just carry spare batteries (and run off high capacity rechargeable ones which will last around 60 hours) The battery pack would only be for backup if I run out of batteries. Interesting that you get 60 hours from rechargeables, I don't think I get that from the lithiums I use. Is this in an etrex...
