Choosing grips on flatbars (and bar ends?)
All bikes I've purchased myself in adulthood (2! I used to ride my Dad's 90s Ti Raleigh in uni, but since moved to this side of the world) have been co-op bangers. I replaced parts that needed replacing, but if the seat didn't hurt, the casette had life in it, I just used them as is for thousands of...

Excellent tips. Almost certainly would've omitted to round internal corners without that comment.

Morocco
I cycled from Wales to Marrakech, via Ireland and Corsica. Not so much bikepacking, more bike touring. Though I clamped some water bottle holders to the forks and attached some luggage there with stuff sacks and used a frame bag  Thought the pictures might be appealing anyway. If I were to do ...

Re: my climashield apex 133 quilt
Nice work. AdventureExpert are really friendly and helpful. We made a couple of quilts late last year, and were on a tight budget - ran into the same trouble of their nice 10d tafetta being quite pricey. They were really helpful and tracked down some seconds and offcuts of both their apex and 10d th...

Re: Source for foam spacers?
Like these on ebay? 5060468270051 Yep, those are great, but a little on the pricey side for a low/no budget MYOG project. Fit for purpose, though. Forgot to reply sorry, I did check at work but the foam we currently have is probably a bit too squishy. I know the stuff you mean as I have it on my Re...

Re: Plastic sheet - material/source?
I've got a piece of 2mm HIPS here but it's only 22cm x 30cm. Yours if it's any good to you? Oh thanks, that's very kind! Having not handled it, do you reckon it's about the right stiffness for a handlebar harness for a bigger drybag (I use synthetic sleeping insulation)? My other thought is that it...

Re: Plastic sheet - material/source?
Hmm, probably minimum 30cm x 40cm.. larger in either/both of those dimensions give me a bit of room to play a little with the design.

Re: Plastic sheet - material/source?
To hijack this thread, I'm looking for a plastic to make a rough handlebar harness with. Without being able to go into a store and feel different materials, and knowing little of plastics, i feel a little blind (most DIY guides refer to US specific materials). Anyone who's more MYOG oriented have a ...

Re: Trouble sleeping?
From a quick google 8D is a colloquial term. It refers to ambisonic audio (which is a technology created for 360 video and VR content - “360 degree sound” that can be tracked to a users proximity and head direction). I’m assuming the YouTube “8D” stuff doesn’t track the users position in 3D space, b...

Re: Source for foam spacers?
Hey that'd be really handy. I might have jammed something together with some old hose and thin packing foam, but proper thicker foam would be ideal.

Re: Set of Chatreuse Shield Thule Pack n Pedal Panniers (14l each)
Here's the Thule specs: • Protected against splashing water - protection against dust (IP64) • Volume: approx. 14 l • Dimensions: approx. 25,4 x 13,97 x 31,12 cm • Material: nylon 420D • Weight: approx. 700 g (according to my "barbie bakes" scales, the weight per pannier is more like 850g)...

[SOLD] Set of Chatreuse Shield Thule Pack n Pedal Panniers (14l each)
SOLD I used these to cycle to Morocco late last year. My needs have changed, and I don't see myself needing the extra capacity of panniers any time soon. I thought about keeping them for commuting, but I damaged my rack recently and I'm moving, so time to go methinks. Despite travelling several tho...

Source for foam spacers?
I'm using this time and my now lack of income to make a handlebar roll harness. I have scavenged most needed parts from around the house, but would like to use some foam spacers to fit with my brakes.
Any ideas where I can source some from online?

Wanted: 3x buckle clips
A bit more time to do some little MYOG projects. Before I buy something new, does anyone have some spares they want to offload?
Not too fussy on size, just after 3x buckle clips to make a handlebar roll harness for my bike.
And any spare webbing would be great too :)

To hijack a little, I’ve been looking for somewhere uk/Eu-ish I can get buy a holster without drybag (I have loads) - I seem to only be able to find the alp kit one. Any suggestions?

FS: 75g windproof white morvelo cycling jacket
These were £99 a few years ago, but I just don't use it (probably carried it 100 times and put it on twice.. I'm self concious in cycling clothing  ) Size s Has some high vis-y type trim. Full zip, zipped back pocket, open vent. Appropriately long arms for cycling, zips up to a kind of half tu...

Re: Quick/easy access bikepacking style luggage
The Blackburn saddle bag/harness is pretty easy to pull the drybag out of - much more so than an Alpkit one I have. Watched my friend with envy as he pulled his out - oo-er! https://www.wiggle.co.uk/blackburn-outpost-seat-pack-1/ Thanks, I didn't realise the harness systems had gotten a lot easier ...

Re: Quick/easy access bikepacking style luggage
I use one of these for similar reasons, and I'm not organised enough to pack in exactly the same order every time: https://dragonfly-gear.com/product/large-saddlebag/ It's basically a lighter, synthetic version of a Carradice saddle bag. One thing I especially like is that I can fit my cook kit in ...

Re: Quick/easy access bikepacking style luggage
Ah. That's the problem with synthetic insulation - you've to choose between bulk and longevity. Not such a problem if you were backpacking but space on a bike is at a premium. --- One point regarding sleeping mats - there's no upper comfort limit in the same way as for sleeping bags so you might as...

Re: Quick/easy access bikepacking style luggage
I have 4.5kg + consumables :) The volume comes from having a 233 apex quilt for this time of year. It can compress smaller, but that damages the insulation quicker. It's about 750g, but packs to 10-15L (obviously down is half or even a third, due to compressing better). I swap to a 167 apex quilt fo...

Quick/easy access bikepacking style luggage
Hiya, most of my overnight riding is probably closer to "touring" - the closest I get to singletrack is when looking for a quiet place to camp. But I pack light and don't like my panniers (they feel unstable on low quality 4x4 roads I often end up on, the wider profile is a pain in more de...
