Re: FS: Acepac frame bag bargains.

Stu, d’you think one can still get use of the down tube bottle holder while using these on a medium rigid frame? Unfortunately my bike is not with me to measure properly.

These look good, but I’m looking to get a full frame bag or something that lets me access both water bottle cages proper

Re: Something for the coffee snobs.

I started a lengthy reply about ideal temperatures for different coffees and different brew methods and pressure (eg espresso is 9 bar of pressure) but I don’t have the science to understand the mountain hypothetical. I think the question is - is there the same energy at boiling water atop Everest a...

Re: Something for the coffee snobs.

I don't reckon you've thought this through properly at all  . To be honest you'd be much better off nipping round Stu's for a tea - he just gets a perfect cuppa instantaneously every time through some strange intuition rather than mucking about with all this weights, temperatures, grinds mumbo...

Re: Something for the coffee snobs.

Philosophy Corner: why aren't there loads of tea counterparts to Co$$$ta, St*rfu€ks, N€ro et al? Don’t wish for that. Unless you like your tea boiled for continuously for hours then loaded up with whipped cream and hazelnut syrup (which has 35 ingredients, none of which are actually hazelnut). Tea ...

Re: Something for the coffee snobs.

Higher end grinders use higher quality burrs which are generally a lot faster and may have a better/smoother/less resistance in the cranking of the arm. The arm of the aerspeed spins freely and easily when there’s nothing in (like spinning the cranks on a bike backward with well greased and cared fo...

22seconds for the aerspeed. From your description I do a coarser grind than you though. And I was trying to grind quickly.

Re: Something for the coffee snobs.

Yeah confusing naming conventions. Based on their website and wordy and somewhat unclear product descriptions, marketing isn’t their forte. But they’ve carved out a little popular niche in the coffee world by making a good product in the UK at a pretty affordable price (again, you need to nearly dou...

Re: Something for the coffee snobs.

http://www.madebyknock.com/store/p50/Aerspeed.html The Aerspeed actually. I got mine for £75 at an event in London, which is how much he's selling them for before VAT. So £90 (unless it's a business expense ;) ) It's more suitable for most types of home brewing coffee - essentially its very similar ...

Re: Something for the coffee snobs.

The MadeByKnock Aerspeed is £75, though I don't think that price includes VAT (it's an office/work expense!) You may be looking at the Feld, which is their upper-end grinder. It has a bigger chamber, bigger burr set and bigger crank arm - basically it's made for brewing coffee for more than 2 people...

Re: Something for the coffee snobs.

I enjoy grinding by hand, and for two people it's no bother. I use a Made By Knock Aerspeed. It's £80 and made by a small (one man?) company up in Edinburgh. The quality is remarkably high - you need to spend upward of £150 to see any notable improvement. Very good particle consistency (not outstand...

Re: Where do bikes go at the end of their life?

Talk to nearby co-ops. They’ll either restore it or strip it for useful bits. My locals are always begging for donations and generally they’re projects very much worth supporting. Always had great help and advice at the co-ops I’ve visited at home and on tour. Worst case, they’ll generally have some...

Re: Quick/easy access bikepacking style luggage

Re removal, it takes 2 seconds, putting it back maybe 10 as its a touch fiddly. I use the bagman qr and take the bag off at every stop. So I went the Carradice route, after seeing an as new Super C Audax + bagman sport QR for the price of the Bagman Sport alone. Good deal. The bag is nice, though w...

Re: Plastic sheet - material/source?

Thanks again for this. For anyone who might read in the future, the 2mm HIPS was just way to thick to cut with any of my modelling knives or scalpels. After some reading around, the material seems popular with model makers, but any reference to cutting with a knife is for sheets under 0.5mm thick. ...

Re: Plastic sheet - material/source?

Re: Corner treatment of thin sheet polymers. External corners should be rounded, not for strength but to reduce sharp edges. Slits cut into the material, e.g. for fixing straps, must be rounded. If not, the acute corners are very prone to splitting (jagged line on sketch). For narrow slits a larger...

Re: Plastic sheet - material/source?

If you can get two sheets of the 0.8mm stuff, that might be worth doing? They could be bonded together with glue (something suggested on the limberlost handlebar harness I loosely referenced making my own the other day). If you're putting them inside a material, they could just be sewn in place with...

Re: Something for the coffee snobs.

My post-CV19 business idea is to hand deliver water from Loch Einich to that there London. Cycling all the way of course. I reckon at around £1,000 per litre I can make a go of it as there will be enough "discerning customers" . I will then start a franchise, retire to North Uist and put ...

BTW the madebyknock grinders fit inside an aeropress chamber, if bulk is less of a concern than weight ;) If it were me, I'd get one of these DIY filter holders, brew an immersion - using an adapation of this idea Hoffman technique without the french press lid, then filter it through the paper cone....

Apologies for the unrequested rant  I remain sceptical. If it really can produce 9bars of pressure (directly on top of a mug...) then it might be capable of producing an espresso. Marketing shtick ignores the other, just as important, parts of making "specialty cafe quality" espresso...

Re: Why Fatbike?

Never used that software, but most NLEs refer to the editing space as a timeline, and the specific assembly of clips as a "sequence" (or something to that effect) - you'll be wanting to make sure that the settings for the sequence and export match the frame size of the source footage :) (o...

Re: Why Fatbike?

I've walked some of those areas you're cycling. Can't imagine riding them! Fatbike starts to make sense..

PS what are you editing your footage with? The black borders around the exported video are because the frame size of your sequence settings don't match the size of your source footage :)
