Re: Pre Winter Peaks Bivy (Nov)?

Don't know if it's of use or will influence your route bu have just read on on of the Farcebook pages that Cut Gate's a bit of a swamp at the moment.

Re: Guardian article re bikes on trains

Was playing with catching the train down for the Winter Ride Thing as I don't particularly enjoy driving these days. However the thought of encountering a jobsworth guard / train manager / whatever they call them and me either missing the start (coming down on the Saturday) or it being a faff to get...

Re: Something for the coffee snobs.

Got one of these that fits inside a mug. A bit more bulky at 77g. If someone could recommend an ultralight grinder then that would be something I'd be interested in. https://www.climbers-shop.com/11104247/products/gsi-outdoors-coffee-rocket.aspx?currency=GBP&chosenAttribute=GSI%2079483-1&gcl...

+1 to what's already been said. Got the older steel forked version. Built it from frame up as a gravel bike with flared bars. Really impressed with how capable it is. Used it for gravel riding, chasing MTB'ers down easier trails and at Lady Cannings and have also bikepacked with it. Found it very co...

Re: Straight Outta Door - Ride from home Trips.

Did some fettling on the Ragley Marley today. It's not been used since the Spring so just wanted to make sure everything was OK for the season it'll be getting used more. A post-fettling spin was in order to so I popped round a fairly "classic" route from Aviemore to Glenmore, Nethy Bridg...

Entered. It'll give me a reason to keep exercising over the Winter rather than do my usual put my bike into hibernation and eat cake training regime.

Maybe you could have a non-binary event. The route could go one way or the other, but you are not allowed to say.

Wondering which nugget came up with the idea of a white shirt.

Betting they'll be used down the pub and the only spanners involved will be the ones wearing them.

Re: Are we "cool" now... and for how long

Being from Derbyshire, if you wanted to be cool when I was 14, you wore a Donkey jacket and work boots. I don't recall that families really had the money for 'fashion' and you certainly wouldn't have had an expensive coat. I'm not sure that 'labels' existed except for Doc Martins maybe. ... but tim...

Re: 800 miles, 98% off road - anyone?

Relying on signage is similar to relying on a GPS and not taking a map out with you (or taking one and leaving it in your bag). All fine and dandy until it goes wrong and you haven't a clue where you are. I'm afraid I no longer take maps with me. If my GPS packs up then I have viewranger 1:50000 on...

Tempting because it starts not far from home.

Got my permission granted to head off for a couple of days. Sunday heading over towards Chapel and Buxton in the Peak and then have got a night booked in the YHA at Ilam. Monday morning back over to Chesterfield via Matlock. Not proper bikepacking as I won't be sleeping in a ditch under a tarp, but ...

Bought one of these earlier in the Summer and have been very impressed. Been using it on my MTB and the Etrex has not moved despite me trying to give it my best of road. A bit spendy but does the job. https://www.shapeways.com/product/XF3QSGQSY/garmin-gps-etrex-to-edge-mount-converter?optionId=65181...

Looked into buying one recently as a tight-arse version of a Spot Tracker. Believe the non-bluetooth ones work using a mobile SIM card, so ruled it out as a lot of the time I can't get a mobile signal. (That's what I tell my Mrs anyway).

Re: 26 isn’t dead....is it?

Built a 'new' secondhand 26er up earlier in the year.

Great thing is because they are a bit out of vogue with the folks who have to have the newest and shiniest I could get the frame and forks etc at a reasonable price.

Love it to bits and brings a big smile to my face every time I ride it.

Re: Laminating printed maps

Started using OS maps again this year after a hiatus involving using various Garmin devices. I've subscribed to the OS site (twenty odd quid a year) and print off the bit I need (on both sides of an A4 sheet if needs must) and run it through a laminator. Small enough to fold into quarters and put in...
