Re: Bike Packing Starter Kit ideas!
Thank you - I think I should probably just suck it and see a bit - i.e. try an overnighter with the kit I have - as I already have a Thermarest, sleeping bag (although pretty bulky), a tarp and a tent (again both pretty bulky!), no bivvy bag yet - hence the request for a hunka xl or equivalent on th...

Bike Packing Starter Kit ideas!
Hi groovers, Max here again. Getting so in to the idea of bike packing. As a complete numpty, newbie, can anyone proffer a Bear Essentials kit list - i.e. tarp, a recommended sleeping bag, mat, tent etc and simple way of lugging said load around!! Are all the bar harness, seat harness, frame bag etc...

Re: Endurance / overtraining / fuel
Brilliant posts guys. I too am aiming for BB200 and currently I am only doing approx 3 rides a week (between 20 and 35 km each (1.5 & 2.5hrs each) - on and off road). I am in my head trying to build up longer rides at a slower intensity. Based on what has been said so far, I think I will keep th...

....and Thermarest WANTED! Hi Groovers, still desperately seeking a well priced Thermarest (or decent equivalent) and a bivvy bag for my 9 yr old son and a Hunka XL bag for me. We camped out on Dartmoor last weekend and fancy something under the stars this weekend or next!! Please can anyone come to...

Re: BareBones Fatfighters - The weigh in
Hi groovers, 4 days in to this "new weight loss life" and have to admit feeling pretty good. Have cut out "visible" sugars, out on the bike a bit more and must say I feel more chipper and chilled with life. Looking forward to the weigh in on Thursday to see if it is in the head o...

Re: Ideal weight!!
I've done a little bit of analysis for you using my strava data from 3 different local climbs (1 about 7mins long, 1 about 11mins long and 1 about 22mins long) I've plotted my power to weight ratio (W/Kg) against vertical ascent metres per hour (VAM). http://i.imgur.com/uPvrHTH.jpg If I take starti...

Re: Ideal weight!!
I'm about 71KG most of the time, sometimes going out to 73KG during high booze/low exercise periods and very occasionally dropping to high 60s when in race shape. I notice a pretty big difference between 71 and 69 kg, but I expect that is because the amount of training I'm doing to get to 69kg lead...

Re: Ideal weight!!
Thanks for that - Seeing as I have quite a lot of weight to lose i.e. as I am 105kg (def not all muscle!), by riding say 3-4 times a week, eating healthily (bla bla heard it before) and losing a good 10-15kg steadily, there shouldn't be too mush risk of loss of power should there? M Not until you g...

Re: Ideal weight!!
I can definitely attest at the losing weight and gaining performance thing, not bikepacking, but analogously. I'm doing a lot of kettlebell work, and training for a Strong First kettlebell instructor certification. Earlier this year I was doing Turkish get-ups with a 24kg bell, and beginning to fee...

Re: Ideal weight!!
Without sounding like a hippy, its easy to forget what mindset and emotions can do for your fitness. Best diet in the world that makes you feel like crap will make you ride like crap. Again, feeling overweight can have the same affect. Lose weight, gain confidence, feel good in your own skin and su...

Re: Ideal weight!!
No idea or opinion on diet types etc, but Real food, whole foods. is a good point. Easy to drop weight by changing some common food types or cutting carbs, fasted riding etc. Watts per kg overall is what makes you fast uphill. Power to weight ratio. My when riding and eating normally is ~75kg and I...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Hi groovers, Apart from having discovered a tick in my leg which i promptly managed to rip the body off which means a trip to the docs for some antibiotics, the rest of the weekend looks promising - a wild camp out with my son while my daughters have a pamper evening with mum and friends. Think we s...

I've not joined in here, but have been trying on my own, and as I'm really trying to get back into actually riding and all that I figured I'd post :) From Jan where I was at 103.2kg I didn't really do anything until March. On the 10th March I started to be LCHF, and have been doing awesomely, feeli...
