Re: EBB's Stop Your Creaking Will You!!!

Is the 'dale one with the single wedge type, a large diagonal cut across the insert? They seem prone to noise as the tightening action creates space as well as contact, more even all-round contact is less likely to creak assuming the BB ID is consistent. If the BB suits a Bushnell go for it, they're...

Re: Endurance / overtraining / fuel

Best lesson I learned for riding further is that lots of slow riding is good. It builds up your efficiency and tolerance to long days without wearing you out. 'To go fast - first you have to learn to go slow', apparently. Pootle more, ride further, ideally on less food (w/o getting bonky). Add in on...

There's more climbing than the Torino Nice...!
Ha.. Is this the route that was pitched as less hilly, and is Chew riding it?
Not a single photo of an innocent looking plate of food

Re: The 1st Torino-Nice Rally, anyone?

A bit of info from Sergio in Turin about Nice<>Turin train travel, thought I'd post it up here for reference. The regional train between Nice and Tende is the Train des Merveilles - info here - http://www.tendemerveilles.com/telechargement-docs/category/6-trains-des-merveilles.html?download=233:tdm-...

Re: Sawyer in-line filter, any good?

A guy I rode with a few weeks back used one in-line from his camelbag bladder, works fine. I've used it as a straw and you can fill a litre bottle in a minute or 2, the flow's pretty good, little resistance if it's not clogged (can be back-rinsed with a supplied tube). Really useful although need to...

Re: BB530

Agreed, there's a lot to be said for solo touring. I thought I was odd for enjoying it a long time ago, now realise that I like riding alone at times and I like how a solo tourer does seem to meet more people along the way, more than you do as a small group of riders I think. Maybe that's just the g...

Re: Luggage etc

Whisky — I managed to carry half a bottle of whisky, because my half-bottle Nalgene container weighs so much less than my solid third-of-a-bottle hip flask that they would've weighed the same anyway. 400g. You Sir have your priorities right .. TLS needs to be balanced with 'it's not a race, priorit...

Re: Bikepacking kit list from the Independent Newspaper

Fair point johnnystorm. My experience of 'a newspaper' best bikes list doesn't match with The reviews are compiled through a mix of expert opinion and real-world testing though. For some of them we simply sent a press-quality image of the bike, not an actual bike. I'm treading a fine line here : ) s...

Re: Boardman CX Team as a bikepacking bike?

See, that's why I said possibly. Yup : ) Just saying in case the amount of drop-bar / CX bikepacking imagery around these days was swaying some towards these bikes when a 29er might suit better. I'm not rising to the southern thing.. I've not ridden it either. Not a fan of rattling along the...

Re: Boardman CX Team as a bikepacking bike?

Exactly, what for? great for the SDW* *possibly not and I'd say that about any other CX bike : ) Unloaded, 35-40C tyres are great. Add 5-6kgs or more to the bike and go on byways or most off-road trails and I'm not a fan, but I know others ride them fairly happily. I just think that adding tyre volu...

Re: Ideal weight!!

No idea or opinion on diet types etc, but Real food, whole foods. is a good point. Easy to drop weight by changing some common food types or cutting carbs, fasted riding etc. Watts per kg overall is what makes you fast uphill. Power to weight ratio. My when riding and eating normally is ~75kg and I ...

Re: Bikepacking kit list from the Independent Newspaper

I'm increasingly wary of lists like these. Sadly my cynicism makes me ask "Who's sponsoring this article/the writer?" Used to supply bikes from a brand that got featured in most of the Independent's lists. It was an intro list to items he liked and knew, brands they had relationships with...

When the OS marks a bridleway on the map they don't always mean it. Ha .. true. Sort of 'you can go here but no-one really does, why would you?' routes. Main one for me - mid Wales is stunning. Lots of wide open empty space. Will be back asap to explore more. Plus 'Old-school XC' is as good as it a...
