Bear Bones 200 ... first scouting ride.
I'm setting off this afternoon and heading down to St Davids for an ice cream. On the way I'll be taking a few detours and scouting some sections for the BB 200. I've a few ideas in mind so fingers crossed they'll pan out. I'll post something up once I'm back, Inc' some pictures to whet your appetit...

Re: Sick as a dog......Show me your current set up...
The only reason I ask is that I thought it was only the Fargo MK2 and Enabler forks that have the 3 bolt braze-ons for Anything cages?

Re: Big rides or ....
I agree with Paul. For a lot of people 4-5 hours is viewed as quite a long ride. What's called for is the ability to ride for 10-12 hours then do the same thing next day ... if your hands, arse, shoulders, etc stop feeling like they belong to you at any point have a fiddle with your set up

Re: Big rides or ....
DNF ... if you're talking about the BB200, then there's one route of 200km which everyone will follow. You'll be given a route map but still be expected to navigate it. There'll be a minimum kit requirement ... nothing stupid, just enough to survive a night out. More details to follow on the site so...

Re: Tubeless or Tubes
I've a couple of bikes set up tubeless. Both are ghetto cobbles, the first one I did used 20" tubes and latex. The second one just used insulation tape and a valve I cut out of an old tube + 200ml of latex ... never caused any problems. It's also cheaper than buying a tube ;) I've not tried ust...

Re: Radnor Ring.
Hadn't really thought about dates ... being a work shy lay about means it's possibly easier for me to work around others. It also means that weekdays are easier for me than weekends. If we're looking at a weekend then it appears I'm stuck until the start of Sep. If weekdays appeal then I'm much easi...

Condensation and bivvy bags?
Anyone else suffer with small amounts of condensation in bivvy bags? I've used various bags over the years from the cheap to the very expensive but 90% of the time there'll always be a small amount of condensation inside by morning ... even with an eVent or Goretex bag. It's nearly always down towar...

Keeping in touch.
How bothered are you about the ability to keep in touch when you're out and about riding? Is sticking a mobile in your bag for emergency use enough or do you feel the need to receive/send emails and possibly get on-line? Not being able to contact anyone for a couple of days or so (unless I can find ...

Radnor Ring.
Has anyone ridden the Radnor Ring? From what I can tell it's 80-odd miles from Rhayader - Kington - Knighton - Rhayader. There seems to be off road alteratives for large sections of the route.
Anyone possibly up for giving it a go sometime? I'm thinking 2 days, 1 night at a pretty gentle pace.

Re: Go on then ... what tyres?
I quite fancy a play with Nano Raptors but they seem a little difficult to track down at the moment.
I've a WTB Weirwolf LT on the front of one bike - 29" x 2.55, massive but very quick and not stupidly heavy given the size. I belive WTB have stopped making them

Go on then ... what tyres?
At the moment I'm really liking Conti' Race King 2.2s on my 29er. Fairly light, very fast rolling, not too expensive and plenty grippy enough. On 26" wheels I seem to have settled on WTB SS Prowlers ... 2.3 on the back and a whopping 2.5 on the front to cushion the rigid forks a touch. Although...

Waterproof sleeping bags?
It's always seemed like a very good idea to me but there's not many out there. The only ones I can think of are the Crux Torpedo and the Ajungilak Shield. Neither of them are cheap but they would take the worry out of using a down bag in bad weather ... you also wouldn't require a seperate bivvy bag...

This isn't a willy waving contest before anyone starts. Purely out of interest, how many nights have you spent out back to back? ... Think mine is 4, although I recall it feeling like much, much more!

Re: Anyone only cook with solid fuel?
I know the type you mean, think there's one laid about here somewhere.
I'm thinking something stupidly light, maybe carried as a backup for whatever else is used. Possibly even use both at the same time, gas / meths etc for brewing or boiling water and solid fuel for simmering ... we'll see
