Re: Bar Sweep... Worth it?
Cheap and cheerful way to try 15 deg bars if they're wide enough and you use an adaptor or an old style 25.4 stem: https://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/HBOOFG/on- ... -handlebar

Re: Big Bear group start next year?
I would've been all over this before my BB300 DNF, now I'm a bit more cautious. Still, I could well be interested in an April start if my early 2019 plans work out.

Re: Garmin RAM mounts worth the extra £sass
Get a standard mount and put a strip or two of electrical tape on the bracket to tighten up where the unit back slides into the rails. Still rattling? A bit more tape. Thousands of miles without an ejection here after adding elec tape. But definitely use a lanyard too.

Re: Steel 29er choices
My current do it all steel hardtail is a 2Souls Quarterhorse. Weighs a ton but works as a trail bike with a 140 fork and 50mm stem, or has done Charlie's Gravel Dash and some of a BB300 with a 490mm rigid carbon fork and a 100mm stem.
My XL is pretty short in the reach though (I'm 6'2").

Re: BB200 thoughts and observations
Something was nagging at me...and I realised what it was this morning: a comment in a Stuart's 'interview myself' blog post from a year ago: "Right, next up is a brilliant question from Rob, who'd like to know, 'What's your favourite mile of Welsh off road cycling?' That's easy Rob. It's a sect...

Long shot swap: Jones Bend for Casey's Crazy bars
I've been trying some Casey's Crazy bars and whilst the sweep is good I can't get on with the forward extensions. Before I just sell them I thought I'd try a long shot that someone with some Jones 710 Bend bars (or possibly 710 loops as there's more of them around) might want to swap (+ a bit of cas...

My black badge is getting pretty old...perhaps I need to make sure I'm still up to it next year before another crack at the 300.

I'll be signing up for next year. I hate unfinished pointless challenges hanging over me, and I have no imagination to create something this nasty myself.

Re: DNF
Agree the Hyddgen river crossing was exciting. I was also DNF on the 300. I reckon I could ride a 200 in that weather or the 300 in better weather but not 300 in that. Endless type 3 fun! Snapping my chain for a second time at the Nant y Moch reservoir road almost came as a blessing, and I soft peda...

Re: BB200 planning
My TLS ethos is falling apart; I'm up to extra gloves, socks and intermediate jacket that I wasn't planning on taking. On a positive note: I hoped to be passed Clun (300 route) before the shop opened on Sunday morning, but there's much less chance of that now.  Shock? Clun is only a b...

Re: BB200 planning
Wow... it really is looking properly sh*t. Indeed. 30 hours of rain with 25 to 50mph Southerly. Gabba and waterproof jacket it is then, and I think I'll be making space for the winter gloves too. Just remember, when someone speeds round a BB300 in the sunshine in 24 hours in a couple of years time ...

Re: Exposure Support Cell
I've had an MTB Batteries triple one for years, still going strong. Great for extending my Joystick runtime for full overnighters like this weekend. However, I'd also second the comment about a USB backup; not quite as convenient but as I'm likely carrying a powerbank anyway its easy to chuck the Ex...

Stu: if we finish around the cutoff 7-8pm, how soon before we have to move the car (it's Llanbrynmair hall again, right?) if we need a long rest before driving?

Re: There is no new black ...
... anyone stupid enough to be trying to do this without stopping? Sure. Why's that stupid? I'm not taking enough kit to make it pleasant to stop because I only want to stop if I have to stop. And there's stopping and stopping. My no stop strategy is actually a couple of 20 minute pauses strategy i...

Just over 5mph needed and remember Stu normally adds a bit ..;-) Sounds easy doesn't it... except for all the bits you'll be walking through / swearing at. Maybe it will be 300km or smooth tarmac... Re: There is no new black ...
I can confirm that the cut off for the 300 will be 36 glorious hours :-bd I'm also going to ask that 300 riders prepare themselves to set off between 7.00am and 8.00am on Sat morning ... rather than 8.00am - 10.00am as for the 200. Want to keep the incurable ones from mingling with those that might...

Re: BB200 gear choices
Of more debate for me is feet covering. I'm going with flats and trail running shoes after previous experience of BearBones hikes in spd shoes, but my trail runners are the let-the-air-in-and-water-drain-out kind, which don't keep my feet warm when wet. 24 hours of numb or painful toes is something...

Re: BB200 gear choices
Layers. Base layer and jersey for the duration, then gilet / lightweight windproof / serious waterproof - one of or all of depending on conditions. If the forecast is really bad I'll bring my Gabba and my waterproof; in both I can survive a nuclear winter. Of more debate for me is feet covering. I'm...

Ran a 2.4 Ardent on the front in 2015 and hooned it down the decsents but it was too draggy everywhere else so going back to an Ikon on the front.
