Re: BHF 100 mile South Downs Way ride
I rode it in 2011, but not as part of the BHF event. It ended up taking 16 hours, mainly due to having baggage (slow friends, who I had to pedal on without) and having taken a massive wrong turn at the end adding 13 miles on. It's a beautiful ride. I absolutely loved every mile. The terrain is easy-...

What about these Shimano SH-MT23 's?

They're less than £35, look comfy... I've never had lace up bike shoes though. Any thoughts?

Recommend Some MTB Shoes
I went travelling last year, and when I returned, my parent's dogs had eaten my MTB shoes. I have tried persisting with flat pedals, but I find myself constantly wriggling my feet to find an optimum pedalling position. Can anyone recommend some MTB shoes? I don't want to break the bank, so a bargain...

A Memorable Debut: Camping with Cows
I did my first bike + bivvy adventure last night. What fun I had!! I decided that for my first ‘experience’ I ought to head somewhere relatively close to home, so I chose a lovely, familiar 12-mile route through the border of the North York Moors to the foot of Roseberry Topping. I know it was a sc...

I know exactly what you mean! Any Road by George Harrison In a similar vein - Do you ever get songs stuck in your head that you really wish you never knew!? For example, earlier this week on a 30-miler morning ride, I had The Righteous Brothers' Unchained Melody stuck in my head for the whole time. ...

Re: New to it all and looking for advice please.
Thanks for the sound advice! Looks like the 456 is staying. I love that bike! I'm planning on cycling in Spain in May next year, so the weather should be relatively mild. But I want to get out and about soon on the trails around the Moors and Lakes, so I suppose I'll need winter gear for that. Cheer...

Which Kit
I too am a complete beginner to bikepacking. Although I cover a fair few miles on the bike, and have spent a great deal of time camping (spent 3x months in a tent round EU with wife and 2x kids last year) - Wild-camping using tarps and bivvy's is completely new to me. I do not wish to duplicate any ...
