Re: New Alpkit Bikepacking Bags

Slightly different view from a design perspective (so for anyone who's ever had their designs copied this is for you). I use to design and sell motorsport setup products. One design got copied by a very large motorsport company. Initially I was a wee bit miffed! Pondered sending letters, speaking to...

I'd be up for this. No preference on dates, unless it clashes with something in the calendar 😂

Any bothy or bothy type shelter was off the cards. Only to be used in an emergency. If used Alan expected you to DQ yourself.

Re: HT550 2021

Had word off Martin that's he's in a BB in Contin to get warmed up tonight. Apparently his shoulder is giving him jip, don't worry I told him I'd give him more jip if he didn't finish 😁

He reported being snowed on this morning on the corriarick pass.

Keep going Martin 🚵‍♂️

Re: HT550 2021

As reported I'm out. A very stressful work period and no training isn't a healthy combination. Felt stressed before the event, felt stressed on the event, and still feel stressed now. Think I need to make some drastic changes. Lars and Steve are doing fantastic. Andy L isn't feeling well so took a n...

Not done any training this year...well I did the Dales Divide which doubled my yearly mileage in one ride 🙄. Apart from that I'm ready to get cold and wet. 😂

Here's my bicycle. Bivy bag, 350 quilt, and a couple more layers than 2019. Feel happy with the setup.

Re: HT550 2021

For the riders, anyone up Friday (I'm there from Thursday evening) I'll be going out for a gentle ride. No specifics, probably head to a cafe/pub etc. No specific start time, only be an hour or 2 max. I'm staying in the Pinetrees but i'll be around Tyndum (probably the real food cafe) if I'm not the...

Re: HT550 2021

I've been pondering the attrition rate on the highland trail (and other races). I've come to the conclusion that other than injury it really is a state of mind that gets you through. 2019 my kit was on the limit, it would have been very easy to throw in the towel. My mind was wired to not quit. I go...

Re: Dales Divide. anyone having a go ?

Just about dried out from that one. The last 24 hours were a wee bit tough. As Andy noted the age of the riders has dropped considerably, I have got more grumpy, and apparently because I've been partaking in these silly rides since 2014 I'm a veteran (as told by a 25 year old newbie!). It was great ...

Re: HT550 2021

A thing I always think about - some very fit people have failed, some (comparatively) unfit people have succeeded. Are you talking about me being unfit! Well your right. All good advice being given. Just take your time and enjoy it. Its a long ride but an enjoyable one. Alan has created a beautiful...

Just be wary using PLA, might be a bit brittle. I've got some black nylon setup on the printer at the moment if your struggling Dave.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but it's probably my favourite tour divide film so far:

Ryan Van Dozer's experience on the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. Self filmed and it has a lovely dog called Mira in it :-bd

Re: Who plans their routes?

I agree with this. Also planning a ride is one of the best ways you can pass time when not on a bike. I usually plan for variations to take into account weather or finding a route too difficult to complete in the time available. I always leave details with a friend and this includes the alternative...

The bolting gun, bare handed ice climbing, canyoning in a frozen stream wearing a t-shirt. Best film.
