Re: Today's Run

Usual post work Tuesday run, I knew it would be hard as the van said it was 28 degrees on the drive to the start. Took it steady and tried to keep in the shade. Having no particular plan and just making it up meant I ended up doing just over 10 miles with just under 1600 feet of climbing. I know I s...

Re: Sean Conway Ironman 102, but...

I didn't know that drafting (on the bike) wasn't allowed in Ironman, never noticed they didn't when watching it on the telly. It is allowed in Olympic Triathlon. Just the thought off having to get up day after day and head out to do that makes me tired. Chapeau to him for being able to motivate hims...

Re: New Lakeland 200 Women's FKT

TBH I thought that Javi would be the next to get that double as he’s got into fell running now and is doing pretty well in races. He didn't mention any plans when I was out riding with him recently, but he's so laid back anyway and we were just enjoying* the riding. I have seen some of his runs ref...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Chapeau, that's some ride  I've never managed to solve the hands/arse issues that come with rides over 24 hrs. I have a feeling that if you do anything with your body for 24 hrs+ it's going to hurt. I've read that some long distance runners (doing runs of 100 miles and up) talk about everythin...

They also touch on the Cutthroat, old men buy one and go to 'find themselves' on the TD* Sounds a bit snobby. I am getting old. Own a cutthroat. Think it's great.i also know where I am which as my teenagers point out is in trouble with just the depth varying. I do worry about the obsession with bik...

Re: The Tour Divide 2023 thread

At this point, should Cutthroat be its own bike category for the TDR? Might be the only way they finally get a win, if it's in their own class? I think I'm right in saying that no one has ever won on a Cuthroat? Not kept up with it the last few years. Latest Bikes or Death podcast is with Ha...

Re: HT550 2023

That was using the Postman’s Path rather than going out to Poolewe so maybe a four hour difference. So the 'original' route was quite a chunk slower then, as the new route to Laggan must save a couple of hours and the new route through Torridon must be another 2 hours quicker? The route changes mos...

Re: HT550 2023

I was wondering what was going on with my thumb. I also had gravel rash up my right leg from a crash descending to Fort A on the first evening, endless cuts to my right calf from the pedal hitting it pushing, both shins torn apart by vegitaton on the Postman's Path and I'm sure quite a few more cuts...

I don't think it's worth the faff, as Bob says if it's a wet year you'll have wet feet whatever you do. Even in a dry year you'll likely to still have wet feet. Dry them off when you stop for the night and dry socks to sleep in. This is my foot (apologies to the squeamish) on the 4th night in 2018 w...

Re: HT550 2023

2 weeks out is the point where the panic starts to kick in and you start to question your kit choices. My advice is to stick with everything you've been using to get to this point. Same shoes, pedals, bike set-up, bag choices etc etc. Ride your own race and don't pay any attention to what the other ...

3.6 mile off road in the rain with big muddy puddles. Great stuff :-bd There's a childlike carefree pleasure to running in the rain and through puddles that non-runners just don't get. People* are so conditioned to avoid getting wet in the rain they do all they can to avoid it. Often, if it's chuck...

I've not used mine in a while but need it soon, mild panicked look at the Sawyer website seems to suggest it's likely to be ok, they say... 10 miles, 1240 feet, 1 hr 40 mins. Sun was shining and for the first time since last May I felt I could put some effort in and not have to worry/think about my knee.

Felt good to be back out on the trails with only my (lack of) fitness as the limit

It was your spirit of exploration I trying to channel, but good point about the lock, I apologise unreservedly for the implied slight on your character.

As there's now a path into and out of the site I didn't even need to climb over the locked gate but it's more exciting that way
