Re: Bargain Alert Thread
Does anybody have any experience of uniqlo stuff? First heard about them from Slugwash when he posted about them on this thread years ago. I have the hooded version of the jacket. Had it for about 3 years now and it's good as new. They are very thin but surprisingly good at retaining the heat. I al...

Unfortunately only XS and brown but might suit someone. I got one and love it.
There's also a v-neck down jacket for £14.90 (most sizes and colours available).

Re: Tour Divide 2015 for armchair viewers
True. The point I was making wasnt about how little training mileage any the TD riders had done, more how much the pro road racers are doing.
10,000 miles is a lot of training time and we're only half way through the year.

Re: Tour Divide 2015 for armchair viewers
Freaky, TD aside I've done more miles than him this year, and I've been injured. It does seem quite low. He might not be putting everything online. Although, there are no gaps - he has put at least 1 ride up every week this year. I didnt look through all the TD racers and select the lowest milage t...

Re: Tour Divide 2015 for armchair viewers
In my opinion, a pro road racer would be capable of taking a large chunk of time off the record. Purely down to the time they have for training. Those of us who need to work just cant compete. Looking at Neil Beltchenko's strava , he has ridden 1,666 miles this year (but obviously not uploaded anyth...

Looks like this:
but there's no distinction from any other types of non-paved double track. So it could be anything from a smooth fireroad to a vague path that a landrover once drove down.

You'd be as well getting a new chain and cassette from CRC.
£6.50 chain and £11 cassette. Free postage if you spend over £9.

I have a Gen3 spot which lasts forever. I took some spare batteries just incase but I knew I wouldnt need them. For everything else, I took 2 of these batteries and charged them with the dynamo hub through the day and used them to charge my phone/lights/garmin overnight. My spares kit included: Lube...

I mainly use strava for discovering new trails. The different ways I do this are: 1- Use the activity search and find rides other people have done starting near me and a specific length. 2- Use the segment explore and find a segment in the area I want to go to. Then look through all the people who h...

Where is the best place to park near the start?
Am I likely to struggle finding a space if I leave it too late?

There may also be some stuff at the Wolftrax trails in Laggan. There is a round of the scottish XC series there on the sunday but I expect there will be practice on the Saturday and might be burger vans + some trade tents. I'm sure there will also be a load of racers around equipped with plenty of t...

Nice.
I've been trying to work out what the yellow/black dragon represented since I saw the sneek peak in the other thread.
I was thinking a mix of Lion of Flanders with Welsh dragon.

I have the same problem with my etrex20. I think it's just me doing it wrong though, I get confused by the various options of "gpx" and "tcx" file formats coupled with the "Courses" and "Tracks" folders. The plotaroute auto download using garmin connect doesnt...

I did a bit of the north loop last weekend. Had some trouble with the gate at the end of the Glen Cassley power station road, where it meets the main road at the north of loch shin. The main gate was padlocked shut and the side gate is a tight squeeze for a normal bike, nevermind a tandem. Took a fe...

Re: Cycle 2 charge USB device
You dont actually need a bung+top cap on your bike all the time. You can use it to preload the headset then torque up the stem bolts which will hold everything in place. You can then remove the bung and run your cable through the fork. Best to keep the top cap with you though incase you ever need to...

Re: GPS signal disruption in NW Scotland
They dont need to do anything to the satellites to jam the signal. All you need to do to jam GPS is broadcast a stronger signal on the same frequency - just static noise would block it or you could even broadcast a different time and give receivers false readings. As the signal from the satellies is...

Re: Tents.
You need to look at the HH value (Hydrostatic Head - or "waterproofness") as well as weight.
Hi Gear Soloista
Flysheet HH: 1500mm
Groundsheet HH: 3000mm
Wild Country Zephyros 1 (which I think is the tent you're referring to)
Flysheet HH: 4000mm
Groundsheet: 6000mm
