Re: Mudguards
I have the Edge AL. They are great compared to the previous plastic SKS. Easy to fit, robust, look good, and I'm sure a tad more clearance.

Re: valve core blocked
Have a new or clean inner ready. If you unscrew the inner fairly quickly, as soon as you remove the inner, stick a thumb over the outer to stop most of the air escaping.
Clean the old one and bung into spares.

Re: 29+ bikes, who rides one?
Similar to the Fatster I have a Chinese CS-197 fatbike frameset. I initially built it up as a 10-ish kg fatbike; now running 29+ with mega clearance, Geoff bars, internal routed dropper and a Thule Tour rack. I've used one in anger. On a trip to Tenerife, took me up and down Tiede's rough roads a few times, no issues!
Fitting helps if the nipple remains in situ, especially when tubeless. Guess I was lucky.

Re: Bar roll set up with normal road drops
Talking of brackets, and the TNR. I used a small (6l?) handlebar bag with a bracket. It leaves a nice gap that you then wedge an 8l bag under the stem & bracket and between the headtube and back of the bag. This also makes the bag on the bracket much more secure; no bouncing around. Best bit abo...

Me and quite a few others i know run the Hypers. Love em. Cope with everything except mud and wet grass.
Light, cheap, really fast, fat, and most run them ghetto tubeless.

My XT 9s GS mech (that I've just upgraded from) works with 11-40. Yes, beyond that would need a RoadLink I'm pretty sure.

If conditions allow I'm really hoping to do the Deeside Trail at Easter, on the fat bike. I'll be staying with family nr Dundee so its that or the Capital Trail I think.

No worries. It's a really good location, and to put it vaguely on topic it's a nice ride from there to Dieppe following Donald Hirsch' s London-Paris cycle route. 200km iirc.

We weren't towing but I remember pretty easy access off Autoroute and RN. Not too far and all wide. There were a fair few 'vans and RVs etc there.

There's only one actually in Paris, Indigo Blue iirc nr Bois de Boulogne on the South bank of the Seine. Stayed there last year with the family for that same week in a safari tent, its pretty good. The Tour procession came over the adjacent bridge.
The site is served well by shuttle bus and Uber.

Re: what saddle are you using?
Something which doesn't seem to conform, is cheap to try (ebay etc), I've got Ergon SRX30 on all my flat bar bikes. Broad and flat, with a kick up at the rear that's really handy for pushing into on climbs. And match my grips nicely. Don't work for me on the drop bar bike funnily enough, got an Evan...

Re: Random question: putting on ESI grips.
On: I spray soapy water in the grip.
Off: slide a screwdriver under a grip carefully, lever handle end up a cm or so and spray soapy water in the hole created under the screwdriver, move it round the circumference of the bar bit by bit continuing to spray.
Tricky to explain but works well.
