Re: The post man's been ...
One of Stu's stove kits, amazing bit of kit, trying it out this weekend on the WHW. Also a Sun Race thumbie thing that I am assured is Shimano 9spd indexed, problem is that I have no way of telling as the XT mech that I was going to use it with has lost the spring etc from the mount bolt  Noth...

Amen to the barmits, they make you look like a Dork but at least you will live to be embarrassed eh
I tried mine out on the ride home from Aviemore this winter on the fatbike, bare hands and had to take 'em off in the end as they were so effective!!

Re: Tell me about the Tour of the Cairngorms route
Hi Scotroutes, I did it counter clockwise as a tour. I have done quite a bit of it as day rides etc in both directions and agree that it rides better that way, for me anyways.

Re: Tell me about the Tour of the Cairngorms route
Also the route from Inveray can be taken on the north of the river missing out Braemar altogether, assuming you are just passing through rather than staying there obviously!! You can see the track joining the Glen Builg section close to the house.
Great route, I did it last year. Enjoy.

Re: Offroad from home?
I live in Glenmore, just out of Aviemore toward the ski centre. I have a view of the Cairngorm Corries out of my front window and can do the Glenfeshie/Glen Derry/Bynack Mor loop from home with less than 5km of tarmac

Re: Cairngorm loop advice
I was over Bynack/Ryvoan today, still plenty of snow on the track up the shoulder and I suspect in the Laraigh an Laoigh too. I cycled through Glen Derry and over Bynack a few weeks ago and there was plenty of snow then, frozen snowpack though as it was much colder, I suspect that it will be pretty ...

Re: Using a quilt AND a sleeping bag?
I have been thinking about a quilt for this summer and noticed that Cumulus have started doing them, 3 in the range I think. They are on the website as of a few days ago.I like the idea of using over a bag at the end/start of the season too.

Alfine8 innerds.
Anyone here familiar with the workings of the Alfine8 hub? I had mine serviced recently but it has come back with just the overdrive working, so it is in 1 st through 1-4, then goes up to 5th and stays in that gear 5-8. Very briefly yesterday while riding 2-3 rd came back for about a hundred metres ...

Re: Tell me about the Tour of the Cairngorms route
Hi Dan, the Harvey 40k Cairngorm map will cover most of what you want. If you are going via Glenfeshie as long as you follow the single track road out to the lodge and over the the bothy you will just cycle of the edge and back on again, Glen Tromie not so much.... I live in Glenmore, close to the l...

Bothy/Bivvi in the Lairig Ghru
Finally got some settled weather to cycle thru the Lairig Ghru earlier this week, I have been wanting to do it all winter. The high pressure we have had over the past week meant that the sun shone and the temps went up to almost double figures!! I had looked into the pass about 2 weeks ago while ski...

I am gonna pull the jacket and sleeping bag as they are not worth selling at the price I would need to let them go. I didn't realise that they were worth so little now! I shall keep them as spares I think.

Re: Neoair users
It's known as "tempering", same thing happens with rafts, pack rafts etc. You inflate hard, put it in cold water and the relative pressure drops. Try putting it in a warmer room and see if it gets firmer. Either way if it's been there days or weeks it should be fine, unless you sleep that ...

Have to agree, world class navel gazing. Great locations, but was I the only one that was interested in seeing what the riding was like in say, Nepal, only to be offered rickshaw riding???? The scene at the beach with the fatties is excruciating viewing. I watched the tour devise film a few n...
