Re: Highland trail 550!!
Super impressed with everyone who contemplates this. Even those at the back are putting in 75+ hard mountain miles every day. Whilst at the front I'm watching the gap between Phil and Andrew. Seems to be hovering around 3hrs or so. Will Phil stop? And risk Andrew pulling an all nighter to sneak past...

Re: Highland trail 550!!
Ian closed a gap on the group behind Phil last night. Presume he rode later and stopped less than the others.
Be interesting to see whether the go faster and stop longer strategy is effective over slower but keep going and stop less (or vice versa)

Re: Freak failures
Charlie, had this happen before and learnt the hard way - Removable valve cores is what I now use to avoid this (so small and light can carry a few spare too) Both the Stans valve, for tubeless, and some Schwalbe inner tubes have valve core's that you can replace without faffing about taking the tyr...

Had my pedal come off the spindle, on a techy descent near Ben Alder. Rode the stump for a few miles to get back to the car
Turned out I had smacked the pedal at some point, no external damage but inside bearing races were damaged which ate the bearings
