Re: Bikepacking - Crikey, how much style
hm... comes to mind to design ultra light and compact beard care products for the bike packing hipsters and sell it for a sensless high price. Funnily enough, I've never seen a hipster far from any sign of civilisation... must be the lack of internet connectivity. Or they are very good in disguisin...

Re: Bikepacking - Crikey, how much style
I for one think it's a good thing. I had a smile or three when I saw this go up last week. I think they've done something very smart for the brand. Will it make it any easier for people to get into? Maybe. Will it make sleeping in a ditch in Wales any easier? No. Probably the most wonderful thing to...

Parts local to West Yorks - Manchester.
I'd be happy to make this more interesting if people want - rather than just the MTL/PB. It'd also bring in some more food options and bivi spots.

I should probably get working on some sort of notes. I've pretty much skimmed the maps and guidebook - not much else. I figure there will be time enough to think en route.

Re: gRVOL 2016
So, I rode the route on Saturday in .... interesting weather conditions. With some stops for photos, some route option checking, and some faffing. It took me 6.5 hours. Frankly, it's what I wanted it to be - a big ride that I can use for Tour Divide training, on that bike, that will give me a minor ...

One of the main reasons I'll not be running single for TD.mountainbaker wrote:@htrider: I prefer single front ring, but you should see what the peanut butter mud on TD can do to a narrow wide chainring! Wish I'd had rohloff tbh.

I've a set of 650b wheels sat around doing nowt - need to get a different adapter for the rear, but plan to play around with it in the next week or so. Worst case, I have nice fast summer tyres :)

I've mostly used my frame bags.
Brushed Ti frame is destined to have a nice patina - I'm just helping it along.

Re: Gravel+.
Brant calls the CBCX bike under his Pact brand a B- which is essentially the same idea as Stuart's. Not sure Giles, the person who that bike was designed with/for, would agree (Cake Bike Cake Xross - CBCX) - it's running a 650b fork with a 700c wheel and 40mm Nano's - so more "Gravel+" th...

Re: Surely 11 days too early - 50t cassette.
For those who do want a 'full' range of gears but dislike the idea of a front mech' ... Sturmey Archer have made something for years that could answer your prayers. 3 speed hub gear that accepts a cassette. You get to keep your single ring and a 9 speed block out back and the hub takes care of what...

Re: Do real men have Highland Trail fears?
That was the appeal of the inaugural 2013 ride - none of us knew what to expect  Ian got there first. The fun of these things is that things go wrong and you have to deal with it. If it all went to plan all the time, there would be no interest in it. Oddly, I didn't even research the bail ou...

Re: Cairngorm loop grp depart 2016
Would an updated GPS file be possible to produce that accounted for some / all of the changes in the course? There were a few times in 2013 where I was wandering about trying to find the 'path' where none existed. I just followed the GPS as exactly as possible, but it was weird to have to leave a g...
