Re: Commuter bike choice
just how off-road capable is the Arkose with 45mm tyres Not very. Im very happy with mine, but it's a drop bar bike. I'm sure there are people who could put it down Megavalanche, but they could also probably put do the same on an ironing board. For mere mortals, it will handle smooth bridlepaths an...

Postie dropped off a lovely BearBones carbon pole for my Lunar Solo, with a bonus rubber end cap and three bad ass badges that are going on my framebag soon as I get home. Thanks Stu.

I've done LEJOG but as a road tourer, so four panniers, bar bag etc. No shortage of space for comforts and budget for B&Bs every couple of nights. And I had two weeks to do it. I can't remember the last time I was so relaxed. I have the utmost respect for those on here who travel off road by bik...

Office closed. Kids at their mums. Spent a few hours stuffing my bouncy bike into the downhill sections of a little bike park near me. The grip from the snow and close-to-frozen base was is amazing. Mega lean angles make for a HappyTim

Re: Alpkit LoveMud Confucius bars
Evening, I've been using mine off and on (mostly on) for about 18 months I think. If they didnt have the loop on the front, they'd just be a nice cheap wide flat-ish bar. Not particularly light and they're a bit stiff, but a great shape and give an easy neutral feel anyone can get on with. Add the l...

Never understood the dew point thing other than it goes up or down depending on pressure and humidity. Be nice to be able to predict it .... can someone predict it? Gotta be an app, no?

I suspect the best tactic will be to throw everything I have in the car and decide on the day.

Looks like I may be a non-starter for this one after all. It's the end of the school hols and I'm away at the FoD the previous weekend and the kids have refused to come along. So my ex may very reasonably decline to take them for two weekends in a row ..... I'll try to come for the ride and th...

2/2 for me with a night in a wood near Penn. First use of my Lunar Solo. Love it. I will be tying out the ends in future though to give me a bit extra head and foot room when Im lying down. Not cycling related but today I got through a short but very stressful test to become a Civilian Support Rider for the Household Cavalry at Windsor. Which means whenever I am available and there aren't enough Squaddies to exercise the nags (which is never), I get to ride the Queen's horses.

Sooooooo, today, arrived, a StorminStoveSystems cone and stove, which will make a lovely present for my wee brother's 50th next month. Ive teamed it with a Toaks pot, and posting it all to Aussie is going to cost, probably, like, a million pounds, so the skinny sod better appreciate it. But the big ...

Ah, perfect. Reg, if you don't mind my dark, brooding presence at the back, I would be honoured if I can join the LHC.WRT - looks like the Panda will be heading up some sort of Lonely Hearts Club again,
Shout if you want a lift there and back too.

I'm a long, wide load and like a bit of head room, so I can change under shelter if I need to and sit up to cook. Ive used all sorts of tarps over the years but the one I've stuck with is the DD Hammocks Superlight 3x3. Its lighter than the Alpkit R7, slightly bigger, but doesn't have the side tie o...

I will need the fat trimmed off mine and I mean all of it and as I'm not eating regular bread at the moment because it is obviously the cause of most of the world's ills including global warming and Trump it will need to be served on Ezekiel bread ... if it's not too much trouble. Had a very cheery Friday. Went into London (normally irksome but I spent the morning in a meeting with a bunch of amazingly intelligent 20-somethings and came away rather upbeat). After lunch with an old friend I'd not seen for 6 or 7 years and a couple more productive meetings, I met TWICRTAMGF* fo...

Cumulus stuff for me. They dont seem to be doing the hammock specific quilt anymore, but I really doubt it matters. They're good value and very well made.

I've tried using my down jacket as another layer inside my quilt, but I move around a lot when I sleep and the jacket doesn't stay in place. So I just wear it now.

Did my first canal bivy last weekend, top advice and narrow boat owners very much on our wavelength.
