I've got cheap tastes. I'll drink anything upwards of, but not including, Mellowbirds. I don't like 'good / proper coffee' it's too much faff, always tastes too strong and bitter. I've currently got a bunch of the Nescafe 3in1 sachets, perfect.
I'm a cheap date.

Re: New to bike packing
Firstly don't get hung up on any particular manufacturer. WildCat gear is very good, but there's a fair bit of choice out there. Also, don't forget you can bodge / ghetto bicycle a lot of this stuff to save money. I use a rucksack, not because I want to, but simply due to restrictions on the bike ba...

Well, actually not quite, it's a bit squished in the vertical plane, I think my down tube angle is a bit shallow. That being said it fits a lot better than I expected, as do my shiny new tyres. Thanks again.

Re: Mini Vs
@ ootini, Pretty simple indeed, but when you are having to do it several times during a local 20-30km ride its a little tedious to say the least. They do seem to get "sticky" pretty quickly/regularly!! Ah ok, that's odd. For me I centre them at the beginning of ride and that's it. Don't r...

Re: Mini Vs
I find that centre-ing the Vs on my Ridley Xbow is normally a case of just wiggling the arms back and forth a couple of times. If that doesn't stop "rim rub" then half a turn on the limiter screw should sort it. With regards to STI lever / cable pull, I've heard that there is a pulley jobb...

Re: Handlebars?
I'm starting to find on long rides my OnOne OGs with simple lock on grips make my hands a little tingly, so I'm considering the Ergon GC1 grips which correct the sweep effect at the grip. http://www.ergon-bike.com/us/en/product/gc1 I thought the idea was to align the wrist so that it was at right-a...

Re: Handlebars?
Having had tingling thumbs and at times sharp pain in my wrists after several hours on the go using "standard" riser bars with ODI lock-on grips I'm considering giving either the Ergon grips or a swept bar a try. Obviously the Ergons are easiest to try, the OG bars look interesting but ar...

Standard KTM flat bars, recently swapped to OnOne OGs. They're very nice but I'm toying with the idea of trying them flipped, will see how I go for now.

Re: DIY bathtub groundsheet
Ootini, I bought the very same groundsheet late last year. Have used it with great success since then. Really light, a bit stiff at the start but soon softens up. I personally don't like bivvying straight on the ground, this is also wide enough to put some of your gear on too. Just gives a little b...

That looks pretty interesting.
Any reason you'd want to avoid Halkyn common? Apart from the fact there is a sign saying you're not allowed to camp there. I've never really had much bother riding up there at night, doesn't seem that popular with the boy racers and smack heads.

DIY bathtub groundsheet
Has anyone made their own bathtub? Any suggestions on material etc? It seems pretty straight forward from a construction point of view.
But then, I'm also thinking, is a bathtub really needed? Why not a flat groundsheet, save all the faff and effort.

With the above in mind, when taking a secondary self inflating mat to go on top of something like the Numo, would it work best between the Numo and the sleeping bag, or better inside the sleeping bag?
Curious.

Re: Family trail near Groeslon, Mid Wales?
Yeah that's definitely North Wales. No idea about cycling round that neck of the woods, but you're very close to the Nantlle ridge, which has some great walks, and you could always nip over to take a look at Dorothea quarry too. It's a very popular inland SCUBA diving site, it's very interesting to ...

G as in "Gun", Royce as in "Rolls Royce" and Lon as in "Long".
If you roll the R in "Groes" you'll sound more local.

I packed late in the day and got the trains to the trails of the halkyns this weekend, only cycled 8miles to camp spot from the train station, the trip was more of a ramble on wheels then any thing. I had just two goals find my point of interest, the old Limekilns and camp out. Camp came first and ...
