Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Speaking of rain and therefor weather - has anyone else noticed that autumn seems to have arrived a bit early? There's a definite autumn feel / smell to the air. The blackberries are ripe and the leaves have begun falling off the trees. I noticed the smell of decaying leaves when I popped out earli...

Re: Tragical Mystery Tour - crowdpacking?
With typically bad timing, this has coincided with me going to one of the few remaining bits of the country with absolutely zero signal (Borrowdale, bottom of). I'm writing this in the pub, which has wifi... I mean I've got to let the missus know I'm ok  Unless I come back in for a breakfast p...

Inclusivity in Cycling - Survey
I don't think this has been shared on here before, but there's currently a well-thought out survey being undertaken to gather views about inclusivity and representation in cycling. If this is something you have an opinion on, and particularly if you feel you are underepresented in some way, I would ...

OMN (Yet Another Post-Viewranger Navigation app thread)
Sorry, I know there are already several threads on this topic, but I know you all love maps. Let's get the lament for the lost Viewranger/moan about Outdooractive out of the way first. Skip this bit if you like. I've been reasonably happy using Outdooractive for the last few months. Not as happy as ...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Cool and drizzly here. Probably better conditions for riding than earlier in the week TBH but I've been recovering from a really painful sore throat/lack of energy illness (apparently not covid though) and have spent a few hours in the kitchen making, amongst other things, a vat of leek and potato s...

Re: Any mtb-ing to be had around/near Sunny Scunthorpe
I grew up near Scunthorpe, and went to college there, for my sins. I wasn't into mountain biking at the time (for fairly obvious reasons), I used to spend a lot of time riding my mountain bike around the village and farm tracks, but I can't think of anywhere I'd bother to go on a mountain bike near ...

Well because it's £16.50 more... which is effectively interest no? I was moaning at how expensive it is, not how cheapredefined_cycles wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 3:58 pm Why not pay via monthly DD. I found it to be almost the same price and there's no interest

A nice new jersey from Shewie in time for my hols (which I might not take a bike on anyway :o ) :-bd I knew what it was as soon as he handed me the parcel. He went next door and all was well... til he popped back with a letter. Car tax reminder: £330 :YMSICK: That'll serve me right for driving aroun...

You could have some fun making up a BB200-esque game - "you're caught in a hillside of tussocks miss four goes then only move for half the dice throw for 4 moves" or pick up a "Get out of bog, free" card "Advance to the Spar shop" "GPS packs in, do not move until ...

Hope this isn't out of order, but keen for the jersey at the asking price. Sorry Martin, sounds like you're not over fussed? Think I missed out on this one when it was on eBay and have been looking for another one, so not sure how I missed it on here.

I switched from 27.5x2.8 front and back on my rigid bike to 2.8 front/29x2.2rear, and have rarely used the 2.8
rear since. You still get that "bulldozer" feel from the fat front, but it feels less cumbersome all round.

I was reading The Ride Journal this morning and came across this little passage on Roman roads by Chipps Chippendale (Singetrack editor) and remembered this thread. He makes a fair point. https://i.ibb.co/68xpFfQ/2022-06-29-08-26-25.jpg I finally got to ride ( push) the Maiden Way from Kirkland to ...

... my mum brought me another present, a copy of Alastair Maclean's Night Falls on Ardnamurchan , when she visited a couple of weeks ago, which is also one of the books featured in the above. I've fairly devoured that and really enjoyed it. Alasdair, not Alastair  Both authors but totally dif...

Re: What are you reading now?
I think quite a few books have come and gone since I last posted on this thread, but a few I've read recently will probably appeal to some on here. Wild Voices by Mike Cawthorne was a Christmas present from my mum and is based around a series of separate trips, walking or canoeing, in various remote...

Dere street and Clennel street run over the Cheviots N/S ish, proper dirt tracks with many offshoots for exploring Hadn't thought of Clennel Street though I've ridden it enough. Re: Can we talk about Roman Roads? Please..
There's a road following Hadrian's Wall which is known as the "military road" which I presume is of Roman origin, for obvious reasons. It's not particularly busy, but I tend to avoid riding it because it's straight, which means means people drive fast and overtake a lot, ignoring the fact ...

I generally go without but use Happy Bottom Bum Butter for really long rides. I scoop some into a little pot - an old 35mm film canister ATM, remember them?
