Eek. Flights booked and everything. Gave myself a few days after for some R+R and mtbing (on a friend's bike) in Finale Ligure.
Look forward to spinning out with everyone.

Re: The 1st Torino-Nice Rally, anyone?
Time to pull my finger out and do the bare minimum of planning for this... i.e. book flights and download the GPSs. Might even trawl through the previous 14pages of this post. The lovely Greg May is loaning me his Divide set-up Salsa Cutthroat which is very nice of him. Just need to make sure I get ...

I saw that rat as well! He did scamper back into the hedge when I passed though.

Re: A carbon Shand...
Even the generic one is a trek stache copy! You mean it's what Trek use as their Stache... Stache is aluminium, Nick! Interested in trying the Oykel. Love the Stache, but it's a little flexy around the BB. Be interesting to see whether this is stiffer. I've not looked at the geom charts, but the St...

Re: Too Early for a YD300 thread?
If I'm honest, I don't think it was the actual route, I did see that a number of fat bikes had clearly gone down there though as the grass was all pushed down in that manner. Will try and find it when I get my strava data up. I'm not sure whether it should have been in the route either, although th...

Re: Too Early for a YD300 thread?
Really enjoyed that! Solid route, with a good mix of tough (brutal) climbing, but also some classic Dales tracks, and blissful singletrack. Had the pleasure of sharing the ride with Ali and Dave (in Bob's write up) and Lee Craigie early on, as well as Ian B and Mike Collins for the majority of the r...

May I add "The Ascent of Rum Doodle" - pretty much a how-to of lightweight alpinism ;-) Also (and ever so slightly more seriously) Feeding the Rat - Al Alvarez. Superbly written - a look into the world of mountaineering and climbing from someone almost on the outside, but with enough exper...

R.e. ScotRoute's post. Very depressing blog post written by Chris Townsend sums up the current situation well.

Hello
Has anyone got a wingnut pack that they fancy selling? Would prefer one of the smaller capacity ones, but what have you got?

Re: Your 'goals' for the coming year.
Some inspiring goals up there ^^^. I've got three that I'm focussed on. There will be plenty of other adventures (there will need to be, as part of training anyway)... April - "Highland Fling" trail ultra marathon - first 50 or so miles of the WHW. Using it as a tester to see whether body ...

Re: MTB chainset on CX - anyone?
T'other half has currently got a MTB double on her CX bike. In reality, she very rarely uses the granny (have to say I can't remember what cassette she has at the back...), and has been toying with going 1x. Reckon it depends on what you use your CX bike for... For any prolonged road/fast tracks (an...

But, I'd still stand by what I said. I think it's worth the weight penalty to have better lights and be able to ride faster/safer... Especially when tired.

Sole light, as in nothing brighter on the bars? Not sure I'd fancy that. Would far rather carry the extra few hundred grams for something like an Exposure Reflex too. But, I do have awful night vision (and not much better day vision).
I reckon I could only go walking pace with just a joystick!

Aztec slightly wavey design... Lots of cut outs mean they are light, but don't seem to have any detrimental effect on power. Pretty cheap too!

Re: Bloody saddles again - really, really sorry.
I use a Fizik Tundra 2 on two of my bikes. It has a flat nose, and is relatively narrow, which seems to suit me perfectly. Having said that, I'm testing a Charge scoop at the moment, which is basically the same shape as theSpoon, and I seem to be getting on just fine with that! (Although it's on my ...

Stu. I've got some racers edge that I can post to you if you want to try them out? I decided that while I like ESIs, my manhands(tm) needed chunkies ;-)

Re: Flat bars
USE Atoms are lovely - good shape to them. Wider than you are looking for, but can always chop them down. Give them a go first though, you might be converted. I actually swapped them because they were too narrow for me. Now have some Kinesis Struts, which are 750mm wide and all round ace :-) Superst...
