Re: Calling Any Electronics/Garmin Experts

Sounds interesting, I ideally wanted to run the Oregon directly from the dynamo as it is backlit when powered via a mini USB which makes it much easier to read. What make is your battery pack, is it rechargable?

Calling Any Electronics/Garmin Experts

In preparation for a 2 week crossing of the Pyrenees where we won't be able to recharge batteries, I've built a front wheel with Alfine dynamo hub which generates 6V, this is married up to a Kemo switch device that has a mini USB output of 5.7V DC. I've plugged this into my Garmin Oregon 450 and whe...

Re: TransPyr anyone....?

Fair enough, it was just a thought. If we aim to get to Llanca for Monday evening having left the van in Irun we can still do 11 days riding and be back for the 12th. I'm struggling to get more than 2 weeks off. Whilst you're looking at trains to the start, could you also look at the train schedule ...

Re: TransPyr anyone....?

Bugger, my organising everything gene is kicking in again. Here's a radical thought, if we're not setting off until the 29th and for the sake of argument going E to W leaving a vehicle at Irun and getting a train to the start at Llanca, it's going to be Wednesday morning before we get going. Why don...

Re: TransPyr anyone....?

Hi Gairy, I'm planning on bringing a fell runner mate who is equally up for it so it's looking like 4. I've also got a fairly substantial rack which will fit on a tow bar or a roof rack if you have roof rails. Regarding the timing, am I correct in having read that the reason you are back in blighty ...

Re: TransPyr anyone....?

This http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=3072459 looks a good route which could be done in 10-12 days. Seems to have enough places to gather provisions and would definitely be a wilderness experience

Re: TransPyr anyone....?

This is the refugio at St Joan http://www.santjoandelerm.com/basseta.htm might be good to get a shower, food etc or is this not hardcore enough? I think the Transpyr race route goes this way to Llavorsi, as do many of the routes posted on Wikiloc. I don't know Doug but he's always seemed helpful on ...

Re: TransPyr anyone....?

I've picked up a copy of the Cicerone guide to GR11 over Christmas and although our route doesn't follow it exactly, it has some info on the numerous Mountain Huts or Refugios in the area. It's interesting to note that of those that are not open all year, the majority don't open until the end of May...

Aaagh! Don't clamp it by the top tube, seatposts cost a lot less than frames to replace. Is that the tyre for it on the floor :o

Anyone want to make an offer before the dreaded fleabay?

OK I'll offer £100 for the Macpac and I'll collect if you're not too far away from sunny Penistone. PM me if you're interested and let me know where in the NE Peak you are ;)

Re: TransPyr anyone....?

Thanks for the clarification Gairy. Sorry to be pedantic but how are you proposing to do the transport with 1 car? Are we going E to W as per the Transpyr so leaving the car somewhere like Perpignan or Roses? If Chew and or anyone else in the Sheffield/Leeds area are coming, I could use my VW camper...

Re: TransPyr anyone....?

I'm definitely in and I may have a mate along too, he's well capable, being a fell runner, Bob Graham completer and decent biker. Gairy, are you travelling from the UK as well? I've slightly lost the thread of your movements. If there are 8 or 9 of us that could all meet somewhere mid UK, would it b...

Re: TransPyr anyone....?

The 2 weeks following the 28th of April suits me fine. Chew, I may struggle to give you a lift as Mrs PB is likely to need the car (it is hers!) so train or a car share would be my options. Has anyone any experience of using the bike bus? I believe it is designed for trips like ours where they dump ...

Re: TransPyr anyone....?

The planets are definitely coming into alignment for me for early May. I've moved the Southern Upland Way trip to end of the month so no WRT this year. If we could be back for the 12th I can do the Fred Whitton otherwise I'd be letting someone down who is really keen to do it with me. I live N of Sh...

Re: Looks oh so wrong ...

Best part is that they are £9.99 from On One if you don't mind strange colour combos, beware the ID of the bar clamp is 24mm not 26mm as advertised, there's also the ones full of holes for the weight concious.

Re: TransPyr anyone....?

Are you still set on May? It's probably my busiest month next year with a trip across the Southern Upland Way at the start of the month, Fred Whitton on the 12th and the WRT at the end. I'm really keen to join you but any other month would be great.

That's not how to do the YMCA dance.

Word of caution, the hairpin at the bottom of that hill on the way back to Dinas Mawddwy is sharp and slippy.
