Tempting...

Lauf website says max clearance is 29*2.35.

Could you fit a 650b plus tyre in do you think ?

Re: Parking etiquette for Bikepackers

The problem is hers. However to avoid contention with people of her temperament, I do tend to park not in front of houses, and completely off the road if possible, even if that means not parking right at the "start" of the ride. If I'm bikepacking, then another mile or 2 isn't going to kil...

Can a home a mechanic or regular bike shop so this? Or does it have to be sent somewhere particular.

Thanks.
You can do it at home - buy the kit off the t'interweb.
SJS do them I think.

Re: Rohloff advice please.

Hi ton, 15 years ago, I ran a Rohloff for a few years. I loved the maintenance free aspect, and ease of shifting gears, but went back to a regular transmission based on efficiency. I loaned my bike to a friend who was interested in trying a full susser, and I borrowed his hardtail. I went from being...

Re: Current Android phone recommendations

I've got a Moto G4, and I like it. It ticks most of your boxes - except maybe the sheer size of the thing will make harder to keep out of Stu's eyesight. It's cheap, battery lasts 2 days (YMMV), no prob with BackCountry Navigator. takes a micro-SD, half-decent camera. No more or less weatherproof th...

Re: Gravel bikes recommendations

Way outside your stated budget - but I recently got the 2016 Norco Search Ultegra (£2k from Evans) on my works C2W scheme. Work put in £1k and I coughed up the rest. I'm loving that bike and the hydro brakes are very good :-bd Or Evans are doing the 2017 model with 105 hydro brakes for £1400. That's...

Re: Tyndrum to Ben Alder - Snow?

Hi Rich, I was up around Kinlochewe at the weekend. Very little snow below 600m or so. On the drive south there did appear to be more snow around, but I think you'd be OK below 400m, especially if the freezing level is rising. MWIS has a variable outlook though, so all that could change :-) Cheers, ...

Re: Hope Pro2 rear hub went pop

So I had a little polite grumble back to Hope about their failure to live up to my customer service expectations, and this is what they said: "Hi Pete Sorry, Robs info was slightly wrong. Although the official warranty period is two years we go up to 5 years as goodwill on failures such as your...

I'm after a hub with cartridge bearings - I'm not a fan of cup & cone.

I'll check out the Superstar, but I'm liking the look of the DT Swiss 350 ~£120 from Bike24

Hope Pro2 rear hub went pop

My 6-year old Hope Pro2 hub split on Friday - just as I'd got to the base of Seana Bhraigh in Strath Mulzie. SplitPro2.jpg I didn't dare ride it as I didn't want to risk the wheel collapsing entirely, so instead (after climbing the Munro of course in fantastic sunny conditions  ) I had a 10km ...

Re: FS innovation: gimmick or evolutionary progress?

There's loads of room for a frame bag in a Giant Anthem also. I'm currently running a super cheap Lomo bag (http://www.ewetsuits.com/acatalog/bike-frame-dry-bag.html) in mine which just about fits. If I end up taking the Giant on the HT550, then I'll most likely be getting a custom bag built which s...

Re: GPS tracking or a spot!

Take a look at Life360 as well (smartphone app). I have that running permanently in the background - and it allows the missus to know roughly where I am at all times (I've got nothing to hide  ) I also use Glympse for shorter journeys where near real-time information is useful. The SPOT is use...

Re: HT550 - 2017

does a 650b+ rear wheel and 29+ rear wheel sound reasonable? Overkill? Underkill?
Are these 2 rear wheels mounted side by side ?
Or one behind the other ?

Either way, I'm no expert - but it does sound like overkill to me

I've not done one of the official qualifiers, so it may have to be an ITT instead.
