Re: FS: Middleburn cranks, Shimano rings
Well - I got them off Singletrack classified a couple of years ago for a project that never happened.Pyro wrote:Might sound like a weird question PJG, but where did you get the cranks?
They've been sat on the shelf unused since then.
Why - do you recognise them ?

Re: WANTED a BOB Yak trailer
I've got one very similar to this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adventure-CT1-Folding-Cargo-Trailer/142454836823 I bought it a few years back, then never used it (it's still in it's original packaging). It's not a Bob Yak, but on the plus side, it was alot cheaper :-) I'd be looking for £30 plus postage...

FS: Middleburn cranks (SOLD), Shimano rings
Middleburn RS7 square taper cranks with 3/32" 32-tooth Hardcoat Uno chainring. Cranks are in good used condition - they have some minor shoe-scuffing, and the drive side arm has a couple of small marks on the inner-side. The ring has plenty of life left in it. Threads & tapers all in good ...

Re: Wanted: Gearhub
Well, I've got an old Rohloff that I don't use any more, and I need to move on. It's currently built up in a 26 inch wheel, attached to a mostly complete bike. To me it feels a little rough, although it did get sent off to Rohloff a year or so ago for a full service including seal change. Are you ba...

Re: OR Helium Bivvy
Heading up for a run at the HT next week, just read Chris Hopes write up and Im having midge based nightmares. Was just planning on tarping with a SOL bivvy sack to keep moisture off the bag and then going for a head-net if the midges are bad. The OR seems a better option for midge defence but it d...

Yes, it was my first seat pack. Only lasted a couple of rides before the stitching started to fail on the saddle mount.38thfoot wrote:Just seen the KTM ones, has anyone got any personal experience of them.

My HT550 (very long)
Here's my take on my first attempt on the Highland Trail 550 (unlikely to be my last).
Be warned, it's quite self indulgent and very long.

Re: HT550 - 2017
My HT550: This was my first attempt, although I felt like I knew large parts of the route, as I'd done a fair bit of homework. I completed in 5 1/2 days which was pretty much what I set out to do - although I didn't beat Karl Booth's time from last year, and he isn't going to let me forget it ! I re...

Re: bike bags for flight
I stalked the internet for ages, and earlier this year I managed to get an Evoc bike bag for £210 from Tredz. For that price I was pretty happy with what I got, it's easy to move around packed, and is as protective as you can hope for without spending megabucks. Fits in the boot of my hatchback too....

Re: SPD shoes for extended hike a bike? Lakeland 200 content
I bought a pair of Giro Rumble VRs on Karl's recommendation, and they've been great.
I wore them for my recent Lakeland 200 trip, and they were spot on. Admittedly, I've not tried them in the wet yet.

Lakeland 200
I knew I needed to get another big test ride in before the HT550, and it was going to be the Cairngorms Loop group start at the end of April. However the weather in the preceding week changed my mind - whatever I did had to be an epic, and I didn't want to have to bail out part way round, or to be t...

Re: Rim Width and Tyre Width
Is there a recommendation or formula that relates internal rim width to tyre width? Ideally I'd like a rim that will cope with tyres from 2.35" to 3". I realise that I might not get the best tyre profile at either end of the range. If in doubt, ask Sheldon Brown: https://www.sheldonbrown....

Re: Backup route
I've bailed on the April CL group start now, and will be going in September instead.
It was too far to go to risk having to turn back part way round.
So I'll be doing the Lakes 200 instead - might see you on the way round Ian !

I'm still undecided - but given the current forecast is for the snow to continue all today, tomorrow and into Thursday, then the Cairngorms Loop group start is looking more and more unlikely for me  The bike is fully prepped though, so I'll deffo be doing something epic this weekend  The...
