Re: 1 litre bottle. SIS v Zefal

I had the old SiS wide mouth and as you say they leaked, the nozzle came out easily. Picked up two of the newer "non-wide" mouth and used for a 200 miler last weekend when i new it was going to be hot, and they were spot on, no leaks at all, only issue is due to the smaller mouth you it is...

Bit like james above, the "stove on for a coffe, whilst packing up kit" is a ritual really.

Really rate the Taylors Hot Lava Java coffee bags, so easy and no faff at all.

Might be extra weight, but that first coffee is as good for the soul as it is the legs!

Re: Close encounters with the wild kind!

I think my worst was doing a spot of climbing in Morocco at Todra Gorge, pulled myself up to a small ledge got to point where my eyes were level with the ledge only to see a snake of some sort basking in the sun, almost fell off, but wasn't going to hang around to identify whether it would actually ...

Re: Torino nice who's doing it this yr

Looking at the Facebook group for TNR, people have raised (and i hadn't yet thought about) getting gas cartridges for cooking, for those landing sunday, will there be somewhere close by to pick some up? Or would anyone arriving by vehicle be able to pick some for those flying in return for hard cash...

Re: Isn't 'Gravel' the same thing people used to moan about?

I think a lot of it depends on where you live, if you have good mountain biking near you, then the best job for mountain biking, is a mountain bike, 20 years of suspension and brake evolution was there for a purpose.... But, i find a lot of modern mountain bikes a bit sterile because of it, all the ...

Re: Aero bars/clip ons?

Numb hands can be a lot of things really. if you are fairly new to drop bars, then often people ride with arms dead straight and locked out, instead of arms being slightly flexed and absorbing some of the bumps. Plus it can be because your weight isn't balanced between your hands and your posterior,...

Re: Mapping Local Trails

Like a lot above, i have a terrible memory, so on Strava i would name rides "the ride with that really good bit between x and y" and add photos to geo-tag. In addition, i have an OS map on the wall in the garage, so as i am driving about and i see a Bridleway, path or field boundary (i'm i...

Re: Packing - what where, conventions?

i have always just had sleeping gear plus down jacket in front roll. With cooking gear in large XL bar pouch and remaining of gear in rear saddle bag, with all water in the triangle. But must admit was thinking (For Torino-Nice) of keeping sleeping gear at front, but using full frame bag for rest of...

Re: Recommended Kinesis resellers?

The one thing that out me off the ti Tripster (and this comes from Andy of this parish) was that most of the frames i see "broken" on forums and websites seem to be ti, i may be wrong, but the 3 year warranty on a £1800 frameset did not seem enough to me. For the same money, i bought a Rei...

Re: Anyone got a Mason Bokeh?

BB is threaded, i wouldn't have BB30 on anything now, been a pain on other bikes. I have ridden Bokeh as well and it is a great bike too, i don't think you'd be disappointed, but thought i'd chuck another option in there. Clearance is good, i have 700x 40c Nanos on there and still a lot of space to ...

Re: Anyone got a Mason Bokeh?

i exchanged emails with Mark Reilly (setting up on his own after being at Enigma for 8 years) and realised that i could get a ti frame with lifetime warranty for £300 more than the Bokeh. Plus as i want to use with frame bags all over it, i'd have to have got the Bokeh invisi-framed i think to prote...

Re: Garmin eTrex to quarter turn adapter

I really like the Quadlock system, i have Garmin but leave the quadlock mount on bike in case i get lost or want to use Google Maps or Komoot. I haven't used it for full on off-road (living in Norfolk) but have clattered along many a bridleway with phone on bars and bar-bag nudging it. Stays on bike...

I simply went for Stans Crest on Hope hubs, tried and tested formula, but gives the 40c gravel tyres a really nice wide profile and the hubs i know i can swap between standards and place on mountain bike if needed.

Re: Footpaths

Here in North Norfolk, i often use footpaths and field boundaries to link up the bridleways, as above, just don' be a dick, if the path is muddy, don't chew it up. Don't use it if it has a lot of pedestrians etc. The only place i've ever been told off was right on the coast where all the Londoners a...
