Re: Exposure Joystuck
Have to admit I didn't look at the details when I bought it, just assumed it would be sufficiently waterproof. Seems it was rated IPx6: Water projected in powerful jets (12.5 mm (0.49 in)) against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects. Magic Shine and Moon alternatives I've ...

Re: Exposure Joystuck
I can’t see how water can ingress a sealed unit. No, obviously it's not perfectly sealed. I'm interested to know how water has got in. They haven't suggested any cause. I've got a magic shine bar light as well with a remote battery, amazing thing it is and I think they do integrated lights as well ...

Re: Exposure Joystuck
I’d go back to them with your last paragraph and see what they say Probably the best idea. I'm not sure what I'd be hoping they'd do - perhaps cover some of the cost of repairing. But I'm genuinely not sure I want to buy another product from them at this point, so I guess it's fair to give them a c...

Exposure Joystuck
Two and a half years ago I bought a (new) Exposure Joystick mk14. Everyone sings Exposure's praises, both the customer service and the product, so I felt pretty confident I was making a good purchase. The Joystick's a very versatile light, and I've been very happy with it, though I haven't used it a...

Allendale Tar Bar'l... Nice traditional 4.5% stout. Perfect for a cold night such as this (and very acceptable on any other night too).

Re: Torino-Nice Rally logistics - tips?
Thanks for your thoughts (and the route James!). Will have a look at the EBE. fwiw in case I sound hypocritical being anti-fly to ride but talking about flying home.. I feel very similarly... I talk a good a game, but we all have a point where we can't justify the time and cost of overland travel, a...

Cheers for all that Wotsits!
Stansted with a stopover doesn't really appeal, but worth bearing in mind, might be the least worst option.
Likewise, paying 30 quid for a cardboard box goes against all my instincts but worth knowing the option's there, thanks Andy.

Re: A wee whisky appreciation thread.
I'm nearing the end of a bottle of Ardmore which has been very enjoyable. My wife won't touch whisky unless it's like chewing on a hunk of peat, so we've got two bottles of Ardbeg and a bottle of Laphroaig in too. I don't drink very much (mainly bivvying tbh!), but stocks are running a little low......

Re: Torino-Nice Rally logistics - tips?
Hmm, could fly to Bergamo (not really in Milan and the wrong side) from NCL or Malpensa (also not really in Milan, but the right side) from Edinburgh. Still a fair way from Torino.
I thought I'd heard that somewhere too.Bearbonesnorm wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 10:01 pm Not sure whether airlines accept these anymore though?

Torino-Nice Rally logistics - tips?
Four of us are looking to do an unofficial Torino-Nice Rally this year - not the group start, because of a BH weekend enduro clash, but a similar time, probably early Sept. Many possible ways to get there from northern England/southern Scotland and back: Would rather not fly, but... Fly to Torino an...

Re: OMN (Yet Another Post-Viewranger Navigation app thread)
My only real gripe so far is that you have to manually switch between 25 and 50k OS. As.you can have more than one map screen can you not have 1:25 on one screen and 1:50 on the other ? Is that what you mean by manual switch? I was doing it by going to the map "library" and selecting the ...

Made up some custom water for brewing coffee with and brewed some coffee. East Angular water is utterly poor show. My life will never be the same again, yet another rabbit hole to disappear down and spend a ridiculous amount of money on. Oh, and more coffee beans turned up... 😬 I'm sure some will p...

Doesn't sound odd at all. Is it in airplane mode Do you have a separate device for phone calls Do you use a walking/cycling device as well. Yes. Yes. No. I have a separate phone I use only for navigation mounted on the bar. I've used this setup for years without issue (aside from Viewranger being di...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
While the subzero temperatures didn't particularly bother me, and I was ready for some nice clear, dry weather, the forecast for a 15-20mph northwesterly winds put me off my original plan of going back to an amazing spot I found by chance last weekend, at the top of a NW facing hill. From any other ...

I don't think I'd be getting any sleep in that building
Out tonight for a nice clear, cold bivvy. Forecast -2°C with a moderate northerly... Best take my big coat.

Re: OMN (Yet Another Post-Viewranger Navigation app thread)
Interesting. 22 years  you're probably pretty familiar with it now then  I'd check it out further, but I'm having quite a good time with Memory Map. I went ahead and bought a year's "Platinum" licence (all OS maps + cloud sync), which turned out to be £30... £25 is ex VAT :roll...

Re: Near death experience - > what road/gravel gearing
I've never experienced it badly but the "speed wobbles" are A Thing. The solution, iirc, is to damp the vibration with one leg against the top tube. Not sure a whole new bike is a solution - no guarantee it wouldn't happen with another bike in different conditions, though maybe some frame ...

Re: OMN (Yet Another Post-Viewranger Navigation app thread)
I would feel quite restricted not having access to both 50k and 25k. The detail of the 25k (particularly fencelines) is indispensable for mountain biking IME. The 50k less so, but once you zoom out so far, the 25k becomes a bit useless and you get a much better idea of the lay of the land from the 5...

Re: OMN (Yet Another Post-Viewranger Navigation app thread)
Good to know John. Yeah, I saw there's a perpetual licence option - currently £125 for all the OS maps. Normally I'd rather buy outright than subscribe, but it's a fairly big chunk upfront, and while MM has been around forever, and hopefully will continue to be, there's always a risk (see also perpe...

Thanks for all the reply’s and things to look out for. Amy, thanks for your post, I have sent you a message asking size and price. Still open to any other old frames anyone has that they no longer use I saw this on STW and remembered this thread: https://singletrackworld.com/advert/surly-krampus-ch...
