Altura dry line rack pack (trunk bag) Just got one of these on order, £44 instead of £75. Hopefully a Tailfin on the cheap (plus I only have 7 inches between saddle and rear tyre - can’t believe I typed that - so hopefully a good alternative to soft luggage or my Ortlieb panniers) https://www.amazon...

Liking this from Rodeolabs, ok it’s not new but the custom finish is certainly eye catching. Looks neat too!

If it’s for the fat Viking, you won’t need many lumens to keep you going. If it’s good conditions, you won’t need much light as the snow will reflect all the light and if it is snowing, you certainly don’t want a lot of light either. Win win situation! A joystick mounted on the bars (or lower if pos...

Ooh Aye, gaiters are essential - I forgot mine and ended up with snow in me boots, which melted = water in my boots = cold feet.... Oh yeah, I carried waterproof socks as a just in case. Also carried a lot of other ‘just in case’ stuff, no wonder I was slow  Also Tony, lithium batteries don’t ...

Re: adding layers equation against cold ??
I think if you can manage with normal trousers down to -7c in the UK, with merino pants added and the insulated over pants you recently bought, you’ll have most bases covered. Most I wore on my legs in low temps (-20C or so) was roubaix thickness tights below my wind stopper softshelll pants and the...

Timely Dave as I was looking at that given that OS want £35 for a subscription this year - up £10 and still not fixed any of the issues I emailed them about several times. MM looks good but no aerials which are useful for ground proofing trails Hmmm..... I think OS are charging faithful customers l...

Re: Single skin tents: do they work in British conditions?
I had one years ago, a TNF one. Was tall enough to sit up in and was reasonably vented. Worked well from Easter onwards but did find the winter more prone to condensation (which would also freeze on the inside…!) I have bought a nature hike single skin tent but I’ve not had the chance to use it (or ...

As ever, no ride plans. Maybe I should book something in as a goal/motivation. Will be doing another year of map colouring, got a custom OS map this year to spread myself around a bit more. Going to the TT in May/June, promised I’d go every year but always left it too late. Can’t wait :-bd Mrs Voodo...

Re: sorry to ask again but Wahoo or Garmin ?
I agree with you Ton, I’m fairly au fait with technology but the etrex was just plain awkward (with a non Chromebook too). Creating a route, then saving it in a certain file format to then have to plug in the GPS and then drop it into a certain file etc Fine if you use computers everyday but a pain ...

Re: Find yourself a Fogou.
A fogou is a name derived from the Cornish for cave. They are extremely rare, with the remains of only 15 fogous known to survive in England and all of them are in Cornwall. Don’t want to come across as an arse but do you think the two are related? ie calling it a Cornish name and then declaring yo...

Why exposure? Absolute garbage value for money IMO For me, they’re reliable and I prefer the all in one system too. They are the only light to have lasted more than two years (I commuted daily for 15 years, so used the lights a lot) I’ve managed to kill - -Hope lights (disappointing to be honest) -...

Re: Anyone use a foam mat instead of a air one
(Have the Z packs one) Wrapped around your bar bag can work or folded in half seems a good compromise for under the bars or on the rear rack if you’re that way inclined. They’re super reliable, not a lot to go wrong bother than keeping them clean during the day and relatively cheap. They’re comforta...

Re: Which Exposure light?
Have the Toro, great for road and ‘classic’ gravel and some easy XC stuff but does require a head light to look through corners on fast, twisty off road stuff.
Not the best picture and the light is pointing a little more down for use on road but you get the idea
