Re: Welsch C2C GPX

I rode that bit back in April and even marked my map up afterwards as "excellent track" (a bit further on though). There's a footpath about 3-400m east that would be more legal and ends up at the same place but not sure how rideable. It is very recognisable as a path so it seems a shame no...

Re: LLandudno Kip Options

I did bivvy next to the cafe on st ormes head, but that was north of Llandudno. I don't know the area well, but Conwy mountain to the west has a lot of open space and good views, and flattish grassy spots. Not sure how much fresh water there is up there though. Plenty of fields surrounding Llandudno...

Re: Bike Fit

Ericrobo,
I asked Ian the same question. The photos he linked to show the new cleat position at the back of the existing fitting holes. No drilling required.

I will only be able to move about 8-10mm, so am thinking there's no new KOMs for me!

Drop Dave Buchanan an email - pretty sure he sent me the GPx but I can't remember where they are. He's a top bloke by all accounts so should help you out.

Re: Bike Fit

So how far back are you talking for the cleats? Is it the rearmost adjustment point in the shoe or are you making new holes and moving the cleats even further back?

Any chance you can ping me the gps of today's ride? Looks like a great loop for a day out. Kudos!

Dave, that was a really enjoyable write up - you have a way with words that shows the true emotions going through your whole body. The video was great and the write up was even better! :-bd

Bivvying Better views than a 4* hotel Or something around that theme ( change "views" for something else) I have a t shirt with "eat. Sleep. Explore" on it that I like - kind of sums me up (apart from the fact that most of my time is spent at work) And the signature is correct. &...

Re: Bike carrying with a frame bag

I think the padded saddle idea is my favourite so far. Up to now the actual carrying is ok, but I get stabbed in the head by the bars as they swing round, so I tend to use one hand to stabilise the frame and one to hold the bars or front wheel, but I really want 1 hand free. Problems problems.......

Bike carrying with a frame bag

Just thinking ahead to a few events, and am interested in the collective opinions on bike pushing vs carrying. I would like to be able to put my bike on my shoulder to carry it over tussocky ground rather than push/pull/carry, but when a frame bag is fitted it makes it a real pain. What's the most e...

Re: Newport to St Davids off-road(ish)?

Is that Newport near Cardiff or Newport just east of Fishguard?

In reality there isn't much around St David's, but if it's Newport near Fishguard there's some good trails over the Preselis and Carneddau hills. Get it wrong though and it's death march.

Re: BB200 Training Plan

In that case do lots of threshold work, and some intervals. You are trying to build power and endurance, so the excuse of "no car" should mean you ride your bike everywhere. Don't worry about the lack of local trails, ride on the road, just do lots and lots of it.

Re: I think I am in a "niche"

I must admit that for the Peak I would probably take my FS, but it doesn't have a dropper post, is a 26er, but it was probably pre-niche as it's a 2002 Stumpjumper FSR. Most other stuff I would take my 29er hardtail, that is completely with it and trendy. My SS is a 2002 hardtail, so a 26er, so I am...

Re: "Mainstream" outdoor kit - how expensive?

Top prices equals top kit in many peoples eyes, and when they are going for an extreme walk in the hills they'll need it. And it looks good walking the dog in the park. But then some people pay thousands for a pushbike.......then just ride it round some hills! It's all relative, and it gives me thin...

Re: So - bibtights and bivvy bags. A bad idea?

I use bib shorts when I bivvy - works ok but I get them off before I get into the bag and put some thermal leggings on and dollop a load of sudacrem downstairs. The leggings help prevent getting sudacrem on the sleeping bag. I tend to try to have a base layer top on under the bib shorts though so ge...

Re: HTR550 2015 Grand Depart.

This year only 12 of the 62 people who signed up actually finished the HTR. That's quite a dropout rate in anyone's eyes - I know quite a few of the non-starters are more than capable of finishing the HTR, but at some point Alan has to protect himself from accusations of "without due care"...
