Re: Weekend plans?

Wish me luck. I believe you'll need it ... the other week the traffic getting in to Barmouth was backed up to Dol'. I'd estimate that's about 7 miles :-bd Ugh, sounds fun. I've already planned for bailout points at Shrewsbury and Welshpool but there isn't a lot between Welshpool and Dol' that I can...

Re: More things that fly than usual?

I’ve seen more bees and wasps this year than I can remember for quite a while. The heather out front had what looked like 3 different species swarming all over it and the head height honeysuckle had loads of small bees or wasps hovering up and f out down it. Apparently warm and wet weather leads to ...

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

Went out yesterday evening on another 3 hours of square hunting - only up to 8x8 but only a square off 9x9 and a ride off 10x10. It's quite addictive this lark

On post-ride food, I normally inhale a banana and then try to avoid the chocolate.

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

My rides tend to be time limited so starting this exercise made me realise just how often in the last few years I’ve just done the same routes because I know exactly how long they take.

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

Went out again this evening and bagged 20 odd new squares in under 50k - only up to a 7x7 square but 9x9 is only a couple of 2 hour rides off. A couple of firsts on this ride, the first time I used my new garmin to follow a plotted course which worked well and also the first time I went down a track...

Re: Fat Fighters 2021

It’s only when I started tracking everything I ate that I realised just how many little snacks I was eating in a day. When I track my food I tend to lose weight because anything I eat is a conscious decision. The issue I always have is that I get bored tracking so I can stick it out for 3 months at ...

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

Went out for a couple of hours yesterday in the last of the sun and only managed to bag a single new square, apparently I should have zigged instead of zagged at one particular junction to get another one, hohum. Up to a mahoosive 6x6 square

I find that when I’ve not been riding as much that I tend to go out way too fast and then pay for it later. The more I ride the better I am at just cruising along.

They split XC into different disciplines a few years ago. XCO (XC Olympic) is designed to take about an hour, just like cyclocross. The distance isn’t a consideration. XCM is more akin to what you want.

Re: Thoughts on waist bags

I've got two bum bags now - a small one to hold my phone and keys while running and a bigger terra nova one that I've used walking and on a bikepacking overnighter. All I can say about the big one is that I didn't really think about it being there until I needed something out of it so it worked pret...

The WADA aspect is why he had to have a booked campsite every night - so they could find him and test him at their whim.

Specifically requested by my seven year old, which is a change from his usual “what does the fox say” and “who let the dogs out”. It’s interesting to hear just how much sound engineering goes into a vocal track
