Re: A wee dram...

Some of the chaps on the WRT were using a meths bottle for carrying whisky, a little squeeze through the spout to dispense. Nifty idea I thought

Alternatively look for small water bottles, like 200-250ml. Robust, light, no flavour leakage

Re: Keeping sleeping bag dry

I put mine in a Thermarest Neoair Pump Sack inside a 20l Alpkit Airlok Xtra along with bivy bag, clothes, mat and groundsheet. This was attached to my front bars Its near enough waterproof, can let air out so I can ram the sleeping bag into the dry bag, and then is used to inflate my neoair when I g...

Re: Aluminium cooking mug - where from?!

Ask Stuart himself, he had ally cooking mugs at the start of the WRT, I'm not sure of the volume size though

Do a google search, quite a few pop up! http://bit.ly/1jcGnzr

Re: WRT - Thank you

Also a thank you to the people I bumped into along the way, the little chats brightened the day up nicely thanks also to the kind folk who let me camp with them, was a nice sociable way to spend the evening. 1st night sort of planned that way as I rode as a group of 6 (flatfishy, bertie, wotsits, si...

Re: WRT Distances, Climbing & Bivi Spots

Managed to download my GPS route and check it over 86 miles, 138km 3933m of climbing Definitely felt worse that that, distance wise its not very far but felt like twice that. Pushed for a fair amount of that too! So close to 4km of climbing... Average speed was 8mph. Assume that's the average of my ...

Re: WRT - Thank you

I had such a good time. Lots of stories to be recounted, took quite a few pictures, lots of pushing, used every single gear on my bike, lessons learned for next trip, kit refining worked out as planned, lots of random chats and banter

Really enjoyed it

Re: Show us your bicycle

In a B&B in Newtown at the moment, car outside seems to be packed with stuff considering I've got pretty lightweight minimalist kit (apart from my bike!)

Lots of food options and a couple of back up options. Plus a big bag of stuff for the jumble

Re: Bikepacking snackage

Really?!

Thats good. I bought some mixed nuts from Waitrose thinking it would be a satisfying snack, only 12g of carbs in a 200g bag

Must be the flavouring that adds the carbs?

Mind you, the hob nob nutty nibbles look much better on the carbs front!

Re: Bikepacking snackage

Actually, these last two replies are interesting. Cheese and nuts, lots of calories but typically held in the form of fat This is what I often take when walking but for cycling I wasn't sure that the fat content (rather than carbs/sugar) would work for topping up the system. Converting fat into ener...

OK, that's good, thanks.

I won't be massively early as I'm hoping for a sleepfull night and a lie in as there'll be no kids waking me up, but I suspect I'll be there mid morning by the time I've broken camped and ridden in

WRT timings

I know its a relaxed affair, but what time to people get back to base? I'd like to get going not too late on Monday for a family do (4hr min drive) but I'd like to time it for a bit of banter plus more importantly some tea and cake! I know start time is around late lunch time and thought return time...

Maybe try calling them?

Re: Multitool recommendation

I used to do that. Selection of allen keys slotted into a 700c inner tube to hold them together, worked really well. Just not as 'cool' as a proper tool. Since getting back into cycling I have a couple of nice multitools again! I actually carry individual tools on my motorbike as I don't trust a sma...

If I only I had some choices... I'll be wearing the same tyres I use for everything else, the ones that came with the bike! I don't actually know what they are, Specialized Fast Trak maybe?

Interesting to hear what the goings like though

Re: Bikepacking snackage

I made some flapjacks last night, but didn't quite have the right ingredients. They turned out pretty good though 6oz butter, 6oz muscovado sugar, 12 oz oats, 2 tbsp syrup Had one before cycling 16 miles to work this morning Might chop them into cubes and roll them in chopped nuts for the WRT. Will ...
