Re: Wanted. Garmin Etrex mount

Agree with the people who say to get the Garmin Etrex mount - the ebay ones either simply don't engage or cause the use to bounce out. I'm no fan of spending £10 on a Garmin mount, but you'll end up spending it anyway so do bother with the ebay stuff. (The ebay "out front" mount for Garmin...

Beware those ceiling mounted hooks for the front wheel - they will only deal with a 2" tyre max. You definitely can't even fit 2.3".

Yep that's what I was thinking too about the camping spot. There is a place in Rothiemurchus that springs to mind.

Re: Tarf Hotel

Yep you're basically right: 15 miles from Old Blair. The last 2 miles from the pony shack drag a bit on foot as it's a poor path and peaty terrain. Pushing a bike would be a hassle but far from impossible. Allow up to an hour for this last stretch.

PS. I know where 8 out of the 10 photos are, just the close up of the camp and the guy riding around the corner foot out that I don't know. #gottaputinthehours :geek:

Re: What Garmin ?

It would be shocking if someone on this forum who had already bought a copy of the iOffer maps then proceeded to make a copy available to someone who had also bought a copy but whose card was now corrupt.

Wouldn't it?

Re: What Garmin ?

ioffer used to do copy garmin OS map cards cheap as but the must have been found out by Garmin as they don't sell them anymore
Interesting. I bought one about a year ago, it packed in after a few months and then I couldn't contact for any refund.
Are there any other cheap SD OS map options?

Re: Difference between Extrex20 and the 30 worth the differe

Hi Rich, I didn't linger long when deciding on Etrex20x and 30x and went for 20x. From experience of Suunto barometer watch in UK atmospheric conditions on multiple Munro ascents, I already knew that atmospheric barometers are inaccurate, so not worth the extra cost. Similarly I've never had too man...

Re: Road Touring in Northumberland

Roads in Northumberland are in a pretty shocking state, especially in the Belsay/Scots Gap area, but for normal road riding you can get away with 25mm tyres, however 28mm certainly give extra margins of comfort. There are three nice towns in Northumberland that make good link points for any ride: Ro...

Re: Off-road riding in Switzerland & Italy - what are the ru

I hiked the Tour of Monte Rosa 10 years ago. It was fantastic. I don't recall seeing a single bike at any point of the route and I recall a lot of steep climbs on foot that would be on foot with a bike too. However, googling in Italian it certainly seems to have been done: http://www.muntanbici.it/g...

I'd like to post my report of YD300 on here with the hope of maybe attracting a bit more attention from people on here to the fantastic events that Stuart Rider runs out of Skipton. If you missed the YD300 last weekend, there is still the YD200 on 25/26 August. I know a couple of BBers came up inclu...

From what I've heard the MBA are tentatively looking at taking care of it, but it is not under their wing yet. I think, with a view to this, some of their guys did pay a visit within the last month to start improving it. The fact that the MBA are considering it all would suggest that there isn't a s...

Re: setting track width on etrex 30

Never one to miss the opportunity for an Extrex 20x question. Recently had reason to ride through the night and although my Exposure Joystick lit up the Etrex display and made it more visible than to the naked eye in daylight, I did wonder if there was a way of setting the backlight of the Extrex so...

Anyone used Extrex 20x in Europe? Are the base maps good enough (I presume they are as they are good in UK) or is there any free/cheap downloads that are worthwhile? Particularly benelux area.

Re: Question from a newbie to tubeless

If you go to a chemist and ask them for a 50p syringe 20ml, you will find that the plastic end of this fits perfectly inside the core of a presta valve, once core is removed, so you can add sealant precisely. Rinse the syringe after if you want to use it again as I've found the sealant residue left ...

Re: plot a route help

bikehike, gpxeditor or ridewithgps all seem to work ok, though there are others. Plot your route, save as a track, copy to the GPX folder on your etrex, then follow the line on screen. I use bikehike Matt. I find it the easiest to use - just plot the route, save as a gpx trail then either to deskto...

Bikepacking shoes are now a market niche!

Not sure what others think, but these remind me of some of the earliest MTB-specific offerings pre-SPD (i.e. mid 80's).
We seem to have come full circle.
