Re: Difficulty of a ride

Attitude towards the route is definitely a big part.
Ground conditions/ surface as well
How many ‘hard’ BB200 have run in the wet vs ‘easy’ ones run in the dry. My wet 2018 experience was much harder than my dry 2021.

Re: 650B Gravel tyres

I'd forgotten about Schwalbe. The G One All-round looks like what I'm after, more road bias but that's where I ride the bike most of the time, good call :-bd I have these 40mmx 700 on my ‘comfy road bike’ Great All-Round tyre (go figure!) Fast on the road and surprisingly capable off road too - jus...

That time she rode from Alaska to do the TD and then rode it again straight afterwards means she's got plenty of cred. Also, as above does she really care what the "die hards" think?

Anyone who can chug half and half by the quart has all the cred they’ll ever need imo :-bd

Big Rohloff fan here.
My oldest is more than 20years old and still running faultlessly. Wouldn’t want to run anything else on a bikepacking bike.

Re: Aero gravel?

I was thinking about this whilst riding home from my night shift on my ‘comfy road bike’ - I definitely like that description, I always try to steer away from calling it a gravel bike because I don’t view it or use it that way. Is there any UCI rule, such as tyre size that is stopping a pro roadie r...

Re: Difficulty of a ride

We’re both saying the same thing. If your GPS unit contains a barometric altimeter it tends to use that data - Edge 1000 does this. Some of the discrepancy comes from sampling interval - how many data points your unit adds to the file. The more data points added the more accurate the representation ...

Re: Difficulty of a ride

GPS elevation data is calculated by triangulation from the satellites the same as the position data is. Some GPS units preferentially use barometric altitude data if they also contain a barometric altimeter.

Very true. That’s what I use my gravel bike for - that and the 75/25 type of rides you mention.
If I do a ‘gravel’ ride, like the East Devon Trail published recently on Bikepacking.com I’ll ride my Fargo with 2.2’s

Re: Aero gravel?

The marketing makes perfect sense. People are buying lots of gravel bikes  Gravel bikes such as that one make no sense in the UK though, we lack the hundreds of miles of gravel backroads that are designed for. UK gravel is really just mixed surface riding where you will encounter all sorts of ...

I’ve an Alpkit Possum, either 47 or 52, don’t remember which off the top of my head. Hardly used. You could have it for £30 all in.
If you’re at all interested I’ll measure it for you.

Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?

The Gondola is expensive and the lead times for custom gear from Rockgeist is loooong. The bag is totally solid though, no sway at all in my experience. The attachment is very simple indeed though, so I reckon you could convert any other small bag to work the same by sewing on an extra strap and buc...

I did say in the OP. So now we can add ZTTO to Campagnolo, SRAM and Sonder/Alpkit onto your hit list  None of this is my doing. I’m just helping ‘my friend’. To be fair to him he didn’t purposely buy the cassette either, it came as a job lot with some Stans carbon wheels (Ardent tyres, tubeless...

Re: 1x12 set up help. SRAM AXS content.

I did something today I haven’t done in more than 30years - took a bike to a mechanic!
First impression was that the hanger is a little out of true but not much more than he would expect on a new bike.
He reckons most of the blame lies with the ZTTO cassette.
I’ve left it with him to make sure.

Re: 1x12 set up help. SRAM AXS content.

Not my bike so I’m not too bothered, and I’ll get a hanger alignment tool out of it.
Poor show from the Stooge QC if it really is the hanger.
Does anyone know if this is a common problem for bikes straight (bent?) out of the box?

Re: 1x12 set up help. SRAM AXS content.

Having just been out to the shed again I’m now pretty sure the hanger is out of alignment. With the chain off and a steel rule pressed against the sprockets the two jockey wheels must be 5mm out of plumb. If i’m right that’s pretty piss poor for a brand new bike, no? I’ll take the derailleur and han...

Re: 1x12 set up help. SRAM AXS content.

I used the chain gap tool that came in the box from SRAM to adjust the B screw. Chain is the correct length. I will recheck the position in relation to gear 2 again with the chain off and see. After that I think I’ll get a hanger alignment tool if necessary. I could also adjust the chainring chain l...

Not sure how long you are planning to take on route but you mention overnight gear in the op. Don’t camp on Woodbury Common - too much nighttime shenanigans from the Nods from CTCRM. No one wants a nighttime meeting with a juvenile commando. Stop late leave early ethos is especially relevant on the ...
