It doesn’t need to be early for me.
9 or 10? I’m open to what suits you, Meg and Pete (anyone else?)
I just got informed I’m going to the theatre Friday night  so I’d rather not be off at the crack of sparrows anyway.

Re: Dartmoor 200. September 18th

Link to final route here: NEW LINK FURTHER UP THREAD. This version of the route superseded. Two very small changes: One early on using a permissive track avoiding a farm yard and one to straighten the route through the woods at Fernworthy. This version also includes a slightly cheeky use of footpath...

Re: Thirsty?

I guess you'd have to get the hoe nozzle below the water line and let gravity do the job. It'd take ages. I've changed my mind on this: it'll never catch on. Don’t let ‘em put you down BD! I reckon you could add a tubeless valve to the tank doofer and use a mini pump to pressurise it, then hey-pres...

Re: Dynamo Light of choice - fork mounted gravel use mid range

SON buy in and use B&M optics so you get similar performance from both brands. What you get from SON over B&M is much better quality of build and materials, jazzier mounts etc. I had a seatstay Secula that went back after a couple of months as it let in water and died. I’ve had a SON seatpis...

Re: Cold at night

I’ve tried 3 inflatable pillows (under inflated as well) and don’t like any. With the proper thermarest my jacket and riding clothes do the trick nicely. I bought an Exped pillow pump after I asked about pillows a while back ; it's been variable, as getting the inflation correct is hit and miss. Yo...

Re: Cold at night

I don’t sleep so well on it. It’s too thick, inflating it with the bag thing is a pita and it’s just not that comfy. Why doesn’t anyone else appear to use them anymore - is it just the weight thing? IME (N=1 and all that) the lack of comfort could be two things. it's over-inflated. I find it best t...

There is a small chance that I’ll be selling a Synmat in the near future because I don’t really like it. I don’t sleep so well on it. Kin ell! Just out of interest, how much climbing does one tend to rack up over 125 miles in the bb200? Pro rata? Just asking for a (heavy) friend.

Just shy of 4900m in 2018 according to my Strava :o

No problem Pete.
I’m working nights this weekend. I will tweak the route using the knowledge gained on my scouting mission early next week.
When you see the new route on this thread pm me an email or phone number and I’ll Bob over the gpx.

Re: Loop Bars - uncomfortable

I did a bit of a comparison with some Confucius bars overlaid on the Geoffs. It looks like the main hand position - by the controls - is very similar, just with a whole lot less sweep. The thing I do second most often is rest the heel of my hand inboard of the controls at the junction of the loop. O...

I do own a Jones as well as other MTB and road bikes. I have swapped the loop bars around to experiment and in my opinion they work best with a short top tube and roughly level or higher than the saddle, go even a little bit too low and they're not nice.
Maybe that’s the problem

Re: Loop Bars - uncomfortable

Thanks for the replies. I should have said that the bars are angled down, maybe 5deg or so like Bob rather than pointing at the rear axle. I read all of the Jones articles on positioning the bars prior to fitting them. I’ll try adjusting them but maybe they’re just not for me. Prior to these I used ...

Loop Bars - uncomfortable

I’ve had some loop bars on my Krampus for a while now - the PX/onOne Rip offs. Initially I thought I liked them but more recently I’m finding I get uncomfortable hands. The bars are high, not quite level with my saddle- say 2cm drop and positioned so all the hand positions are available. I have the ...

Went out on parts of the route yesterday to check the last bits I haven’t previously ridden. I rode the the first and last 27km. Overall average for the first 27km was 9kmh but had risen to nearer 11kmh by the time I finished. From where you reach Fernworthy woods with about 25km to go the route run...

Re: 29+ Tyres Vanished?

Thanks Phil. I’m running FatLab 55mm rims which don’t leave a whole lot of room at the chain stays with standard 3” tyres. I may take a punt on one for the front and run it with a Dirt Wizard at the back. It would at least add another tyre to my burgeoning collection. At the rate I’m gathering tyres...
