Re: 'Low carb' diet

I was PM'ing with Zigrat yesterday about this & it got me thinking a bit more about keto-adaptation and eating on long rides. I thought I'd post some of it on this thread as it's obviously relevant to the discussion. Sorry it's a bit lengthy... But, the big issue I have is that, on those long ri...

Re: The post man's been ...

Good excuse to build a road bike Stu? :D I finally stumped up the cash to buy a Hope Race Evo X2 (or whatever) rear brake to go with the front one I bought a few months ago, so the bikepacking bike will finally have matching, lightweight, brakes. Take two sets of pads into the shower? Not me! They a...

Re: Revelation X Quilt

Yep very pleased with my RevelationX quilt, particularly for the price. I'm a quilt newbie but now I've used one can definitely see the attraction. Mine's not quite the uber-winter version that Stu went for...although it is still rated to -12c! I can well believe it too. I've used it at around zero ...

yep same theory on the keto-adaptation here, mostly because I also recently read that book! Food diary sounds like an interesting idea, will try & keep one going for a while

Good link, thanks. I've been struggling to come up with decent meal ideas, particularly as I'm a fussy bugger!

Re: 'Low carb' diet

Stuart, I've been trying to stick to a low carb diet since May and I agree with everything you've said about how you're feeling. The weight dropped off me, which had a really good effect on my hill-stomping on the singlespeed! The thing I noticed most of all was that I wasn't getting the nasty blood...

Yes if you do lots of riding on your own then it is reassuring to have it with you I think.

Re: Horse gets in way of cycling.

Dangerous things those horses! I hope your foot recovers quickly (bloody hurts doesn't it!) I let one of our ponies out into the field every morning & have to negotiate slippery mud, excited pony hooves and opening & closing the electric fence, all whilst a Spaniel puppy sprints around our l...

Re: Gear ... what's impressed you this year?

-- My custom Wildcat frame bag has been a revelation (no pun intended!), allowing me to ride without a backpack & still have lots of packing space, whilst also saving weight. Definitely the one single item that's changed my riding for the better the most this year, and other than for circuit rac...

The drishell fabric is brilliant for sleeping bags! I was extremely happy to have mine quite a few nights this year when I'd have otherwise been rather cold.

Is it the "Summit" trail..? I think that's the one I rode a while back & enjoyed. Sounds like I'll have time to ride it in the afternoon then, cheers.

Merlin are doing an extra 20% off Altura stuff at the moment. They were already the cheapest on a Pocket Rocket I wanted to order this morning, and the 20% off was on top of that. Nice. :D

Re: Back where I started, only more skint!

What height is that fork? Axle to top of fork crown is 51cm. The medium (the one I have) and large frames are designed to take a 100mm travel fork if you should wish to fit one. Small frames 80mm. Yeah quite tall for a rigid...original Swift fork was 485mm I think, the Niners I'm using are 470mm &a...

Re: Back where I started, only more skint!

Looks ace, really tidy. What height is that fork? Looks even taller than the original Swift fork, I'm not surprised you needed a negative rise stem! I think I sold another 29er tonight...a rigid singlespeed 26er mate of mine borrowed my 29er up a sketchy climb...he couldn't believe how easily it got...

Re: The post man's been ...

If the weather got really rough could the pole be tilted anymore to lower the edges or maybe dig a little hole to sit the base in ? Yeah definitely, the pole can be angled quite a bit, certainly enough to stake the back down to the ground. I hadn't thought about shoving the pole a bit into the grou...
