Re: South Lakes Spring Break, 25-26th March 2023

Thanks for organising and all links worked for me Still going and ambitiously going for all of it but more interested in the Cartmel bit [ as that is new to me] than Langdales which I know if push comes to shove - may even take Ambleside Jenkins crag [ Garburn possibly] to get back * OK for parking ...

Re: Irwell Divide

I'm trying to find a legal off the "main roads of death" route from Horwich to Farnworth or Walkden Ok there is potential BUT its going to take you into the heart Of Bolton and through there - its " quiet roads " once there but its * should * be doable - I am happy to test ride ...

same reasons for me and whatever you do if you google squirt make sure you add the word bike chain lube to your search terms and not just squirt on its own and then lube added

Re: chain wax anyone ?

there are bike chain specific chain waxes out there[ i found the motorbike one too sticky and gloopy personally and would advise against its use] but i use a kit from ebay which is basically wax [paraffin ? i forget] and PTFE powder Heat it up, dunk a chain, swirl, wipe and drip dry then crack it - ...

Re: Irwell Divide

The A6 is fine till the bit before the large roundabout for Middlebrook. Never ridden the bits afterwards so no idea. Will ask but my initial guess is you will need to either drop down and do the 55 sustrans path [which does follow a river - same route as railway line and all legal ]or go up and rou...

Re: Irwell Divide

Its local to me but cannot claim to know it that well[ have a few mates who know it though ] Route 55 into Manchester is a good one but its bit confusing and not at all signed in Bolton till you reach the hospital - iirc - only done it three times mind bit confusing by Middlebrook as well which can ...

Re: What's the default GPS recommendation nowadays?

I use the adjustable top cap mount. I'm not sure I have a pic of it, but can adjust the angle... costs though £££ that is indeed spendy [ there stuff is mazing but the prices are insane] as i have the cap bit I think I can adapt this to do the same thing [ and i have one for my dynamo light] but st...

Re: Trousers for wearing post cycling on bikepacking

It doesn't have to be as many miles as you can physically manage in a day before you crash with hallucinations and minimal stoppage, that's an ITT. I have no interest in that and would crash if I tried but bikepacking is about taking the minimum[TLS] to survive and touring is enough to have a good ...

Re: Trousers for wearing post cycling on bikepacking

Think you have strayed into the realms of touring there, personally I dont take a change of clothing or footwear when I go bikepacking*- I dont even have a change of cycling gear[ may have some shorts but very unlikely]. TLS and you wont need to consider a trailer. * i have yet to be refused service...

Other than a light why would you want to strap anything to your helmet?
It not only makes no sense it actually makes a piece of PPE more dangerous to use

Re: Cotswolds 200 (and 100 option) bikepacking event

How technical is the route? I mean how skilled do you need to be to get down stuff. I have a triathlete mate who handily lives in bath who is fit enough but [ insert tri joke here] is in noway shape or from an off road rider or a MTB [ he does not even own one] could lend him one I suppose if MTB ar...

Re: Cambrian Gravel Challenge ....

It's surely a fusion of the words bike and camping so you need to camp it's not bikebagging

I don't consider not carrying your gear to be allowable and arriving at a camp site is touring at best
Your thinks being portaged is simply just being soft
