Re: Loop Bars - uncomfortable
Mine were just too low. I really wanted to like them and I put up with them for longer than I should really. The usual carpal tunnel syndrome in the left hand, I get it with every single bar/bike but it was noticeably bad with the Geoff bar. OG bars with stubby end Ergons are least worst for me on t...

Re: Plus or Fat
Just had loads of fun doing 400+ miles in Scotland on 4.4 Jims. Yeah bit slower on road but smashing it down everything makes up for that. Everybody loves seeing a fatty too. Didnt even notice the 7kgs of stuff I had on it. For a frameset I've had an Ican SN01 for about 5 years now with modern trail...

5-10 summer rider also. Winter is XM9 boots, was SPD but now with the supplied cover plates, plenty grip on and off road. And yes, hotpogs if properly Baltic.

I built up a 2nd wheelset for me with 29x3 Knards ... damn, now I'm wondering if I should use the 4.4 Jim's on there now, in fat solidarity.

Re: Steel vs Carbon forks for reducing fatigue
I also swapped from similar bar (Geoff) to OG. The extra rise defo helped me, but man with Ergon GP2s this is my comfiest set up ever.
Tried the similar but wider Kyote too. Nah, too wide.

Fatpackers: 26x4 v 27.5x3
Hi all I use my fatbike for bikepacking always in 29x3 guise. A mate is joining me next month (everything crossed!) With some others for a relaxed week in Scotland mainly double track and probs a third tarmac. 100km/day. His OO Fatty wont take 29x3 apparently and he has tubeless 26x4" Jumbo Jim...

Re: Fat racks
No.3 needn't be a bodge. Said it before mine is rock solid and accommodates a mud hugger, 4.4 JJs and dropper admirably.
Mate just did the same in his OO Fatty.

Re: 29+ Tyres Vanished?
I'm glad they are still alive on here, I switch the fatbike to 29x3 for bikepacking. Collected a nice pair of 120tpi Knards recently which are replacing Rangers as they are so damned tight on WTB rims. Got a DHF3.0 to move on, it's such a monster that wont clear any Suss forks (except whatever that ...

Same conundrum as those of us who want full use of a dropper, and/or don't want to have to to swing a leg over a traffic cone.
Rack. Specifically Thule Pack n Pedal, incredibly secure mounting.

A mate has the 29 version of this fork. 29x3 Dirt Wizard fits nicely, DHF 29x3 fits but no clearance, too tall.

Re: Tent on rack + panniers / something else?
Talking rugged racks and small panniers I've spent the winter testing my Thule pack n ride rack, modified wider to fit my fatbike. Rock solid. I've now added a Topeak MTX track to it for a 22l expanding trunk bag and fold out panniers. It all works great and allows full gnar dropper post deployment.

Re: Reynaulds sufferers
Hot pogs are great but it's a pain having to constantly pull them back up all the time. (With stubby Ergons) They are the only thing that work for me though. I've gone flat pedals this year with the same Shimano boots (were SPD before) and it makes a big difference. Thin socks as liners then wool ri...

Great thread, so many interesting stories. Somebody mentioned the 'Reset' book earlier; thanks, I now have this on order. 52, married 25yr, kids are nearing independence (I hope!). A nice chunk of equity, but still a sizeable mortgage. I dearly want to move up to the N of Scotland (from Sussex) ... ...

Re: Mini Front Racks
1.jpg Was easy and effective. Retained top deck but made an ali plate with 8 holes in. Deck sits on the plate and is fixed through the inner holes, and the outer holes screw to the rack frame I had to make 1 cut, to the tubular frame and widen it, but that sits under the deck so is hidden. Bonus is...

Mr Goat I can vouch for the Carbonspeed Chinese fat fork, I bought a frameset from Peter a few years back it has been faultless. Xmcarbonspeed.com I miss my Bluto though so would be interested if you are selling, I'd need a fairly long steerer though. ETA have replied on your Ad and sent pm ref Bluto.

If you have a 29+ frame why on earth would you not want to run biggest tyres possible in it?!
