Re: Wildcat Tiger on a full suspension

I had a similar problem with the Viscacha on my 9:zero:7 fatbike. You can see here how little clearance I had on my first trip out. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7072/7349587728_85b9fa9465_c.jpg P1040183 by ScotRoutes , on Flickr Doing the straps up tightly does help but I also found that being a bi...

My standard Dakota mount seems to stay put fairly well - I've had neither the rotating nor the "self-ejecting" problem.

Only from the loch south to the col at NH173706. It was some time ago and certainly before I'd have considered biking it. I can't say I recall much about it though.

Harumph! Last time I was up there it was completely flooded. Luckily, I was walking, not pushing a bike!

Andy - looks like you went in via Loch a'Bhraoin. I was wondering if the track was above, or below, water level??

Nice one - and a great idea for a destination. A couple of days on Arran would be pretty much ideal.

Re: Genesis Fortitude Race

You're not alone. I prevaricate for ages before buying anything! For bikes, I always try to work out what sort of riding I really want to be doing and then home in on a bike (or, more likely, frame) from there. My last purchase was the El Mariachi and I'd only really got switched on to the 29er idea...

Re: Crazy Fool

Actually, it took him 3 1/2 days to get to JoG and he has subsequently given up the ride. Looks like they had a few problems with route-finding and with the support car. A chilly headwind for 800 or so miles couldn't have been much fun either. I did LeJog in 9 1/2 days and was more than happy with t...

I have a set ready to be fitted to my El Mariachi. I've just been trying to dial-in the normal riding position first. I also use those Cane Creek Ergo bar-ends and find I'm on them most of the time.

I love my Shimano MT90s for hikey-bikey stuff and team them up with Crank Brothers Candys. However, there are lots of shoes with SPD holes and a good sole. Specialzed Tahoes are another favourite.

Re: What's the cheapest way to get OS mapping on a GPS?

I read somewhere on STW about creating custom mapping (for the Garmin Edge 800 specifically). Something along the lines of scanning a 25k map then spending some time associating it with lat/longs to create you own GPS-able map. Did I dream this? Anybody done such a thing? If so can they be used on ...

I think you have to consider how the video will be viewed. If it's over an internet connection via youtube, vimeo etc it makes little difference that it's Full HD.

Re: Bivvy a month for 2013

I ended up at Comrie Croft on Friday night. The purists might claim it wasn't a bivvy as we had a good camp fire going until midnight but it was another night in my tent under a cloudless sky full of stars and a bight moon so it's a big tick in my book :D

Rab Ascent bivi. It's last years model so needs a wee loop on the upper zip area so I can maybe tie it to something and create a bit of airflow/ventilation in the right conditions.

Expect a flurry of tarp questions ;-)

Which tarp?

Bivvy bag is currently en route to me via ParcelForce and so now I need to think about a tarp of some sort. I was having a look over on backpackinglight.co.uk where there is a bewildering assortment. I'm only after a 1-man thing and, as usual, cheap & light would be appreciated  I'm also as...

Swap or buy/sell.....Thermarest

I have a Thermarest Prolite 3 Short that's seen little use. It's the original "square" version. I'm after the newer version that has a more tapered appearance - also in a Short. The reason for this is that will be able to use the tapered version inside my packraft. I'm therefore looking fo...

Re: "Groundsheet Protector"

The "best" solution is to avoid pitching where you might damage the groundsheet. That might involve going over the area and picking out anything that might be a problem. I used to use my "emergency" bivvi bag (the big orange plastic kind) as a groundsheet protector.

Re: Handlebar bag query

I've done that thing with the tent strapped to the bars. I found that a length of Karrimat (am I showing my age?) inside the drybag gave it some additional stiffness and stability too - and was a handy seat. I've now got one of the Revelate bags. The advantages are * I can pack other stuff in it wit...
