Re: Bike Fit
Following this discussion with great interest, but can someone (Ian ?) clear up one thing: When you move the cleats back 13-15mm are you drilling a further/extended hole in your shoe ? Or just going as far back as the shoe allows ? On my shoes I've moved the cleats back as far as they will go, but r...

Re: Whilst pushing up Black Sail pass.....
I did most of the Lakeland 200 last Weds,Thursday,Friday and thought the pushing/heaving/wrestling with the bike up Mosedale and over the Blacksail Pass was horrendous ! On my Scott Genius 26" wheels, I was constantly thinking that a 29er would be just that easier not just for riding and rollin...

Re: HT550 less the northern loop
Just done another 'leisure' trip... most of the Lakeland Loop, carried tent and all the gear but didn't need to use it ! (I'm in the FRCC and had my hut key, so stayed in the Wasdale hut Wednesday night and the one near Patterdale Thursday night.) I started from Langdale and did about 3.5 miles to g...

Re: Reverse a GPX route
FLV, thanks for the tip(s). It's a Garmin Edge 800. I've reversed it so hopefully it works.. probably won't know till I next do the MTL...(it's the gates you know... better to do it with at least two people, last Thursday two of us started, but after 3 miles my mate was on all fours vomiting (not at...

Re: HT550 less the northern loop
Cannondale Flash Another thing about the Cannondale Flash is that the bottom bracket is low, so you do catch the ground/rocks quite a bit. That doesn't happen on my Scott Genius. Probably also a full sus will ride the rocks a lot better than a hard-tail, you can control where the bike wants to go wh...

Reverse a GPX route
I did the Mary Towneley Loop last Thursday and Garmin was saying "Off-route" until I stopped the course. I think the GPX route was going anti-clockwise, and I was going clockwise. Anybody have any good ideas regarding reversing a GPX route ? (tried the Google stuff but mainly people who do...

Re: Best GPX file reader/app for iphone?
I tried Anquet maps, including for the iPhone. Nothing but problems, so I ditched it and bought Memory Map which I used to have... cost I think about £60 - the iPhone app is very cheap. Once you buy Memory Map you can load it onto 5 devices - and on the iPhone it is brilliant.

Re: HT550 less the northern loop
Cannondale Flash with Lefty fork: its main advantage is its lightness, weighing 20lbs. However the Lefty fork was a bit 'twitchy' on a lot of this stuff, and on some of the rocky descents such as Coire Lair I decided to treat it very gently - that said a full sus bike such as a Scott Genius I have, ...

HT550 less the northern loop
In other words the HT430, but with this year's changes... I did it over 12 days from May 20th, and it did seem to go on and on. The weather was not good on some days with a constant wind wearing you away, but I'm really glad I got round it, as I have such fond memories of the Highlands, walking, cli...

Mary Townely Loop - it's about 47 miles, quite a bit of climbing - I'm doing it this Thursday hopefully with a road friend of mine...
Good riding apart from all those gates north of Waterfoot...

Re: Mixed news
Bad news and very very frustrating... I thought I should do a reply to say that in all this rehab/waiting don't forget to keep using the knees. Obviously you will have to decide how light and gentle you go - very gently I would say, but the thing is (unless there is a physical tear or something) gen...

Tick-dick ! After 3 days in the Cairngorms last September I got back home tick-free ! On the Sunday got all my gear out (tent, sleeping bag etc.) at home, in the living room to dry/air out... so far so good... then a bit later felt an itch on my willy ! Glasses on and armed with my magnifying glass ...

Keeping sleeping bag dry
I'm about to set off on the HT560 in a week or so (not doing the event, I want to take in the scenery and so on)... nearly got everything organised but had my sleeping bag in a bin liner, which is no good because it's too weak. Wondering what you experts use ? (don't want to increase my weight very ...

Re: Shoes - A quandary.
Last year I bought some Shimano MT51 MTB shoes - light in weight, cheap at about £55, a good sole which is suitable for walking in (I mean when pushing the bike) - (I use Eggbeaters) They are fine for summer. I just tried putting a link in to Chain Reaction so you can take a look, but their site (wh...

Re: Sleeping bags
Thanks all for your very useful advice. I was using a Karrimat which is 7mm thick, full length. I probably do sleep cold... not much fat on me, 10st weight... I did have a Klymit but I've sent it back because it has leaks (not holes that I have caused, but I think manufacturing faults).. I like the ...
