Re: Salsa Warroad owners….
Yeah it’s a bit odd really. Most bikes that can take a 650 x 47 have better 700c clearance than this. They claim the maximum is 36c I think. But I couldn’t fit a Vittoria Terreno something 38c in there.

Re: Salsa Warroad owners….
I did head out on it with 650b wheels on in the new forest in the summer. Was 45mins in when I realised I’d left my water bottles in the car. I sped back as fast as I could and ended up having a crash in the car park on a huge pothole. Cut myself up pretty badly. Since then the wheels have gone on t...

Re: Salsa Warroad owners….
Well I bought one of the cheap ones from Lyon and planned to use my fancy stans carbon wheelset with it with 38c tyres but they didn’t fit. I tried it with 650b but those wheels are now on my Fairlight Faran. Also I’ve been meaning to swap the 11-32 cassette for an 11-36 with my wolftooth road link ...

Re: Salsa Warroad owners….
I’ve not actually ridden my one further than 10 miles since I bought it….. thinking some guards will stop it collecting dust until the spring.

Re: Salsa Warroad owners….
They apparently can take proper guards with the “provided mounting hardware” which I will have in the garage somewhere.
Lazy me thought I’d ask for first hand experience before I go and suss out how they fit on.
Cheers

Re: Dropper post curious
I did my first ever ride with a dropper on Saturday- the Brand X one on my new Ragley.
I was cynical about them but I’m a definite convert- so much easier to shift your weight about.

Re: Swap shop son hub
Hi mate I made a vaguely similar mistake recently.
I purchased a SON delux 12mm hub thinking it was a SON 28.
So I’m not after a swap for a QR but have a 12mm Dynamo for sale (albeit the delux) which I believe needs you to go faster to get the highest wattage. Dunno if that helps at all.

Re: Warroad sizing - I’m 173cm. The 54.5cm is compact but it fits me. I think if I was buying again I’d want the 56.5cm.
I’m usually a 54cm on most drop bar bikes.

Re: Modern Hardtails
I was looking at the Pipedream Sirius actually after reading the bikepacking review but out of stock atm. I have however, picked up a Ragley Big Al frame today from Wiggle for the princely sum of £175. Added a 150mm travel rockshox revelation for £200 so even if I end up hating it it’s not big bucks.

I have a Hammerhead Karoo. Never used Wahoo but it absolutely blows Garmin out of the water in all aspects other than battery life.

Re: Modern Hardtails
One thing that does annoy me with the old school geo is that with a saddle pack it’s impossible to get your bum over the rear tyre. From what I’ve seen / read modern hardtails remove the need to get your butt back as they are so much longer. I’ll check out the Cotics as ideally I want one bike to do...

Re: Modern Hardtails
My el mariachi has very similar geo to the modern Surlys which I was a little surprised by.
I guess the answer is I need to keep that for bikepacking and get something cheap to sling around trail centres with my boy.

Re: Modern Hardtails
Well I’m currently riding a very unfashionable El Mariachi with a 100mm fork and no dropper so even something vaguely sensible like a Solaris Max would be a fairly radical change. The thing I’m looking at is a Ragley Big Al frame (£280) but my main questions are 1) how do these things ride loaded 2)...

Modern Hardtails
After sneering and resisting for years, I’m starting to get a bit curious around these ridiculous looking low low slack things as my son is expressing an interest in trail centres and they do look like fun.
Are they actually any use for bikepacking?
