Re: Short travel full sus
On my second Orbea Occam Trail 29. 130 f and 120 r. Really like the look of the new Orbea Oiz Trail too. 120 front and rear and room for two water bottles in the triangle so lots of room for a frambag but even lighter than my occam. Also Option for custom colours for no extra cost (just an extra wai...

Re: LCHF diet on-the-road
That should say “only” avacados apologies. My understanding is it takes a awhile for the body to convert fat to replenish muscle glycogen that’s depleted through increased effort such as through climbing. A bit of carbs is needed to do this quickly. Balanced diet for riding. High fat foods for big r...

Re: LCHF diet on-the-road
I found this podcast useful on the subject. Zach Bitter is a very good runner (America 100 mile record holder running 7.01 minute miles) and the approach he advocates is more or less become fat adaptive in training and preparation then fuel using carbs during the actual events. https://www.youtube.c...

Anyone doing Torino Nice Rally
Hi all,
Who’s doing this this year?
Tried to organise getting myself there last year but couldn’t quite work it out with uni commitments.
Seeing if this year is viable!
Looks a cracking route.

Re: Highland Trail 550 - 2018
I was trying to find some history on Alex Pilkington - anyone any ideas? Given his time I'm presuming he must have a fair bit of long distance stuff under his belt?? Huw was still in Raigmore earlier on a drip but OK (dodgy water then heatstroke confirmed). Mountain rescue got involved seemingly bu...

Fanny pack?
Can anyone suggest me a Bumbag / hip pack / fanny pack?
Like the look of the restrap one, handmade in UK is definitely preferable. Anyone have this one?
North St in USA have one that doubles as a mini bar bag.
Thanks
Scott

Re: Where are all the women?
I think this is an issue that runs deeper than than just in cycling. The drop out rate from sport of girls in their early teens (start of high school) is two fold that of boys even in the most tentative estimates, some studies claim it's more like 6 fold. I think a huge amount of it is societal pres...

Re: Zealous Division anyone?
I've ridden one, super fun bike to ride, extremely agile and very very easy to manual. Responds to tiny changes in input, opposite manners to the standard 160mm enduro sleds you see at the trails. Agree with the reviews that say it is a bit stiff, not convinced it'd be comfortable on long rides alth...

Re: New bike?? Spesh Epic
Personally I am a big fan of the short travel full sus for long rides. Very comfortable and bikes like the epic, spearfish or the orbea I use can all take a decent sized frame bag if you wish. Costs of running them is more expensive than hardtails or rigids but reliability is fine on big rides if yo...

Orbea Occam Trail M30 Large
The Orbea Occam Trail is an extremely capable bike. Equally at home on the XC Race circuit as it is on steep technical trails. It also makes a fantastic Bike packing bike, I had Beth at Wildcat make a costume frame bag and the main triangle is pretty spacious! The HT550 fastest known time is on a ca...

Nice write up Aiden!
Just had a read through then put two and two together and realised that your pal Robbie must be the Robbie I just rode with over the weekend in the Albannach #makegravelgreatagain ride. He mentioned this ride in passing.

My girlfriend uses one for her riding and training and finds it useful for hill efforts and the like. She is 'quite' good though to be fair Scott! Could be argued it's working for her  (Regularly placing very (very) well in UCI XC races for those that don't know her) Definitely 'quite' good! ...
