Yep, sounds like you've got too many spacers in there. The number you need is dependent on the width of the bb shell on the frame. I think I'm going to take a similar approach to you, get the bulk of the riding done on the Saturday, we should have plenty of day light, but perhaps Bivi out somewhere high to avoid the midges even if it means a slight detour.

On mine, the Laser Photon, the end poles split in two so they fit in with the others.

The terrapin is waterproof, i went for that as it had the extra capacity, but only really needed that for winter trips. The shaped drybag makes it easy to fit in the harness.
