14000 kcal in pure fat would weigh 1.5kg (9kcal/g) so that would be 3kg in total on the forks. If it is carbs each bag would weigh 3.5kg (4kcal/g) so thats 7kg in total on the forks or just over 15lb in old money. If it was comprised of commercial dehydrated meals, say the Expedition Foods extreme r...

I am not buying from anywhere that requires me to have a membership. That's just silly. It's basically just a compulsory sign up to the newsletter, it doesn't cost anything. I think I mentioned this on a thread about Go Outdoors and their membership cards, in the back of my mind there's some legal/...

Good luck Karl, you must have got wind I might be in the Peaks one day next week so decided to ride north as fast as you can to get away  I assume karls spot isn't working as I cant see his location I've had the same using Spotwalla, it sometimes seems to take an hour of two to get going. We went from Machynlleth to Barmouth as part of the BB300 last year. I'm not familiar with the area but the organiser was so I can only assume that route is the best available

Re: Sleeping bag or quilt with tiny pack size
Oex Xenon Ultra is a 217 gram down jacket. I love mine!! (it's the one in MattPages video of his around Wales trip) And a lot cheaper than £200, if you can find one - I think they may have stopped making them now I'd spotted them, I think John Climber has one as well. But they do appear to have sto...

Re: Sleeping bag or quilt with tiny pack size
Now, unlike Sean, I'm from the north and I've taken me 150 down to just above zero with a good mat and a fluffy ferret. I think I have been under-matted at times which hasn't helped. On my Neoair xlite I'm much warmer than on the Klymit X frame. I also don't take a ferret  I suspect a 150 qui...

Re: Sleeping bag or quilt with tiny pack size
Cumulus 150 would be the choice du forum but if you are a cold sleeper then the 250 might be better. ^ Take note of this. I'm obviously a cold sleeper as I find my 150 only just about warm enough even in mid-summer and most of the time I end up wearing a lightweight synthetic jacket as well. The 15...

I put the tube in my rucksack, waist pack or if not carrying either of them then I put it in my jersey pocket. They survive intact even on the fully rigid bike. Even on the full sus they don't survive intact in the frame bag. I once bought a sis 500ml bottle off ebay and it had 40 individually wrapp...

Re: Strava to Garmin Etrex problem...
I think the main issue is there's too many points. Strava uses the data from the gps recording. If you ride a dead straight road 10 miles long you'll end up with 100s of points in the recorded track as the gps logs it at intervals, say every second. It doesn't know you're going in a straight line af...

I think the getting stung counts as the 3rd bit of bad luck. Your weather looks better than I've had. I spent 6 hours yesterday riding in the 40 mph wind and rain, I kept telling myself it was good practice for the Cairngorms  and then overnight it got worse, but I was tucked up indoors this w...

That looks neat, although I really am not a fan of squashed tube then bolted. I was never a keen on it either until I was lucky enough to see the Ferguson P99 F1 car from the 60s up close (it used to be maintained at a friends garage) and they've used the same technique for a removable member on th...

When buying the light? You only get the mains charger and the lead to charge from a USB.
The lead to charge a phone from the light is an accessory. They are available with different ends to suit your phone. I've got one, highly recommended.

I should add I wasn't trying to change your mind, just pointing out that of all the group starts I've done the DD spread out the quickest.

Re: Dales Divide back on 29th August... yay
If the route is the same as last year it was uphill straight from the start so we spread out pretty quickly. I also don't remember there being any cafés on the first day, I didn't stop at any anyway, so don't right off joining the group start just yet.

Re: Durability of BOA Laces
Cheers all. The Northwave laces are only a cord, albeit quite durable*, I've replaced them with Dynema as it was cheaper than the genuine laces.
It sounds like the BOA laces are much stronger so I'll give them a try.
* but not quite durable enough for my treatment
