Re: WRT2017 LHC dating agency

Looks like there are enough people joining LHC that 2 or more smaller groups forming is inevitable. I'm happy to have a go at building an alternative route and setting out some loose "ideals" to see if there are 2/3 others who share my objectives: remote locations, enough supplies to be se...

Re: WRT2017 LHC dating agency

My team mate just pulled out so I am now riding solo. I like the sound of the LHC. Am currently planning to get to the Star Inn Friday night. Hope to see you there. Does anyone need a lift to the WRT from Sussex area?

Re: WRT lift share

My team mate for the WRT just cancelled. I am still keen to come but am driving up from Sussex. The solo drive is the only thing putting me off. Anyone looking for a lift to the Star Inn on Friday night? (ie: I could pick you up anywhere between Sussex and Birmingham etc)

Re: Carbon disc forks

I got there in the end.. Indeed a tapered fork did fit with a new lower headset, as per James' advice. All in it cost me £200 to get a carbon fork fitted, twice my budget, but after today's maiden ride it was definitely money well spent. This is basically a new bike, only original items are frame, s...

Re: Tubeless Woes

I have managed to seat my tubeless tyres using a CO2 inflator system. This is cheaper than a special pump - in the short term at least.

Is it true the CO2 degrades the sealant - anyone?

Re: Carbon disc forks

Hey Norm, thanks for checking. Never mind. James, thanks for clarifying about the headset. The fork you recommended is out of stock until June unfortunately. I can't belive what a faff this is turning into. I think next step is to take the current fork off and see exactly what it is. I had planned t...

Re: Carbon disc forks

Just as I thought I was starting to get a grip on the technical aspects of selecting a fork this thread suddenly makes me feel clueless. Thanks for all your advice, I'm keen to just find any solution that is quick and not too expensive at this point. Here are some pics that hopefully answer some of ...

Re: Carbon disc forks

I'm using the bike for commuting, which involves 5miles of South Downs Way and 5miles of tarmac. I also want the bike for bivis. I'm trying to upgrade in time for the wrt. Current forks don't have disc mounts. I've already bought a new SLX group set but can't fit it with these forks. I'll have to lo...

Carbon disc forks

I am looking for some carbon disc forks to upgrade my bivi/gravel bike. Ideally I want 1&1/8th, 300mm for 700c with 40mm tyre clearance that weigh about 500-750gms. Prices for forks of this description seem to range from £50 to £500! I like the look of the planetx London road fork - the ugly oli...

Re: Wheels 700c v 29er

That is interesting about the planetX wheels. I figured for £75 they are worth a shot and so ordered a pair. My current rear wheel is completely shot and needs replacement. I noticed that the frame has a rear disc mount (I hope that is what it is?) and so I plan to convert this to disk brakes. Disc ...

Re: Wheels 700c v 29er

That is really helpful, much appreciated! Yes it is a 135 quick release. The Mavic rims look great. I would be interested to know what you think their failings are @Justchris? I was thinking of a 1x11 just to cut down on the components that collect mud and also there is a great deal on CRC http://ww...

Wheels 700c v 29er

I am upgrading a hybrid bike for the WRT. It has 700c and I need a new rear wheel that can take 11 speed and a disc compatible with SLX groupset. I want to put xc tyres on it such as the Clement X'Plor MSO 40mm. Ideally I'd like to spend about £100 on the wheel (excluding tyres and rotors). Everythi...

Re: Life cycle of a bivi beginner

Nice to be back! As per last post, I did do the WRT in 2013 and it was great, but then work got in the way of my bivi career for the last 3 years. I am planning on doing the WRT 2017 and this has resparked my interest in all things bivi, hence first post in 4 years. I'm heading out this weekend wit...

Re: Life cycle of a bivi beginner

Warming up for the WRT. Had an afternoon of tarpology practice in the rain. Deano was sporting his new tarp and poles set up, whilst I was trying to turn my DD tarp into something resembling a shelter. It was good to acclimatise to the weather and remind myself how crucial it is to get your kit sort...

Re: Life cycle of a bivi beginner

Back on it.. Been training for the WRT with Deano and Hoojum and feels good to be back on the bike. Not sure how I will cope with the endurance aspect as I am only managing one ride per week that is longer than 1 hour. I am having to make do with some training on a stationary bike and running - work...

Re: Life cycle of a bivi beginner

How time flies.. Thinking about geting back out there, not had any bivi action since September. I did however make it to Affan Valley for an vaguely exciting single track weekend towards the end of last year. I can feel the bivi bug kicking back in now that I am the other side of my snowboard holida...
